The Ford Fiesta one on top of the pile is my copy that I keep forgetting to reclaim Should have a load of squiggles in the front or back blank pages of tyre size calcs in some shonky block capital handwriting.. If they don't sell, I'm happy to take a pile of them on to sell through ebay on behalf of the unit.

As for them being illeagal, rubbish!! If your car had them when new then they are legal on it!! I'm pretty sure that's not right. If they were on there from new and stay on, then it's legal. If it was replaced AFTER 2001, then it should comply with current rules (with the exception of pre 73 black and silver and pre *slightly earlier year that I've forgotten* black and white). Of course, who's ever going to be able to prove that you've changed your numberplates, and when it was done? You'll never get pulled up on it, but not technically legal

By 'sensible' I mean I'd need a car with power steering that my wife could drive if need be. I'm really quite keen on you keeping this.. Is it possible to fit some form of EPAS?

I think the idea of the BLOS variable venturi mixer is really cool, but I wasn't prepared to spend the £110 or so until I found a writeup/review that wasn't on a landrover site frequented by the seller! Pete, it's well worth having a look through the Tinley Tech website as they seem to come highly recommended for DIY installations and have a basic FAQ and explanation of the types of systems but basically.. Open loop/mixer- The most basic type and only used on cars with carb or mech injection. The LPG gets heated and regulated by a reducer/condenser and then sucked into your inlet tracked due to venturi effect. Quite crude, impossible to set up perfectly (IMO) but can be made to run well. closed loop mixer.. A refinement of the above. Between the reducer and mixer is a stepper motor to fine tune the fuel level. It's controlled by a lambda sensor. Sequential multipoint. Full ECU controlled cleverness. Much better than the above but you'll need a car that's running electronic injection gubbins to start with. Too advanced for me to have a clue about

a Volvo estate has to be pretty high up on the list. I reckon it fills all of your criteria and is old enough for it to be considered 'retro'

I'm on a laptop with shoddy speakers so can't really tell, but it doesn't sound like it's missing. Have you tried pulling the leads, one at a time whilst it's running. If it sounds different, it's firing on that cylinder, if it makes no difference you've found your problem. Is that wise? I did it once before on a mini and got thrown across the workshop. Then you'll know for this time that using insulated pliers is a safer bet Yanking a lead is a perfectly legitimate method of diagnosing where a misfire is coming from, and to be honest I normally do it with my hands but have very occasionally got a tingle. This is an open forum, and my opinion should not be considered as qualified so if you aren't happy, quote your Haynes or whatever for health and safety issues of the high tension side of an ignition system

I know I think with our logic when it comes to sensible, but I still can't see what isn't sensible about a bombproof 4 door saloon that does 40 to the gallon? What are you after as a swap?

I absolutely love these.. The fact that they are a corrugated filo pastry monocoque really gives me a bit of fear though. I'm happy with a welder but my goodness, I bet it'd be horrible. I seem to remember there being some later diesel ones? I'd probably end up buying one of those in the assumption that it'd be better, more economical or more torquey and be sorely mistaken on all points

Also having a bit of an experiment with an idea that someone else (Chairchild) mentioned on this thread. Making sugar wine and then back flavouring.. In this case, it'll be a sugar wine, yeasties killed off and then flavoured with blackberries, left for a month or so. My approximate theory is that it will keep it tasting much 'fruitier' rather than like a wine and will not need aging in the way a wine would. That said, I'll be having a bash at J69's blackberry wine also Sugar wine just does not like to brew by itself. The lack of nutrient means it's really hard work to get it going. I've remedied this by putting in a 200g or so of liquidised blackberries passed through a fine-ish seive to act as a nutrient. They were previously frozen so figured I'd be safe not to campden and stuff first. It's worked a treat and gone mental now. Once it's died down, it'll be racked, topped up with blackberry juice (messy process) and stabilised. It's had about a kilo of sugar so if it all converts to alcohol, it should end up at 12-13ish% My more conventional BB wine is looking like J69's in the above photo. Probably because I followed his recipe Must research research WOW. Everyone seems to get fairly good results from it.

the indvidual insulation is getting pretty bad so I wouldnt feel happy just re wrapping. Even if one came up that was bad, it would atleast give me a reference for remaking one with new cable. As the car is used daily I don't realy want it off the road for too long. Ah, sorry. I misinterpreted what you said (despite you being quite clear ) My 240 (B230e) has a modular engine loom that plugs in with a small multiplug at the bulkhead. I can't remember which fuelling an 'F' is, but if it's carb then then I reckon it'd be fairly easy to pull out and make a copy of in under a day. Or even just splice in where the bad bits are.

Little girls can like cars too. If our little 'un turns out to be a girl, she won't have much choice... Likewise ;D We find out in just under 3 weeks. I fully intend to get 711200 jr to be able to point out Triumph Heralds, Mk1 Fiestas and 'Bruce's Delica' at a very young age

..though only if the turbo was bigger than standard. The one on our AAZ engined Passat looks like a little garden snail You'd be better off with a snail towing the car! I have an AAZ engined passat too and the turbo does nothing. Useless tiny thing Indeed. Being the 'Umwelt' model, I was under the impression that the turbo is there for a more complete/leaner combustion rather than power. I may be wrong though. All I know is that it is ickle and the car will happily sit at beyond 90 (private roads and all that) but take an approximate eternity to get there.

I agree with Paul H. As long as it's mechanically sound, then why not daily it. It's what they were designed for, afterall. I currently daily my 30 year old mk1 Fiesta over 300 miles a week and I do little more than servicing and rust prevention stuff on it. My previous Triumph Herald and Citroen Dyane both held out fine doing the same mileage. just remember that an old car isn't inherently less reliable, it'll just have more regular service requirements

See if you can have a play in one before you get one. It wasn't the fault of the car, but I thoroughly disliked my Dyane. Maybe I was just in a bad mood the day I got it and associated it with displeasure. I seem to be in a minority among people that own or have owned them though

I know of a place thats available, its big enough for one car... almost two... may fit two mini's in, it has electric and there is a communal toilet, don't expect a massive place but its cheap I beleive £40 a month? It isn't the warmest/cleanest place. I can give you a number if you require? Its on the Outskirts of Bridgwater. Matt My old one? It's double garage sized but has a wooden pillar to one side meaning that it's only feasible to really store one car (not that you'd want to put more than one in if you are working on it) Very basic facilities but it is secure, and has power (as well as my old foot pump ). It cost £20/week on a rolling/contract free basis.
