sounds like massive overheating to me they can get mightly hot especially when on boost an high exhaust temps, if you get stuck for replacing the engine with another gtd or azz etc, id consider getting a cheap n/a diesel engine and swap your sump, turbo, injectors and pump etc on to that, they are the same compression ratio and only lack a few things like oil squirters under the pistons, cant see if making a massive differecne tbh and everything from the gtd will bolt straight on.
I'm keeping my old n/a block and head precisely for that reason.

325 high comp engined 325 touring in lach silver, ive had this car for over a year now and has served me great, used it to do weekendly 250miles commutes and has been my daily driver. has over 11 months mot, taxed until the end of the month, can tax at cost. It has a single point lpg kit fitted with tank in the spare wheel well, hidden filler, so no nasty holes in the body work and has a almost new r90e vaporizer, LPG is 70p a litre here so the savings are great, ive set it up with a wideband lambda so is running teh correct misture on lpg. It starts on petrol but can be switched over to gas straight away from cold or hot by reving over 2000rpm, only time I run on petrol is to start or if ive run out of gas(can choose to run on petrol only with switch. Tank holds about £35 of gas and this gets me 240 miles driving malvern and back with cruising and some speed runs. cars done over about 160.000 miles but runs great, and is solid, only has had one piece of welding done on the front jacking point, has this done prior to the mot. car ius lowered 60mm, it is rather low I think, its has a custom sump guard fitted on the front tho so avoid any sump damage, could do with some larger profile tyres on the front imo. has a powerflow exhaust sytem which is not much louder than the standard system, its not a loud system imo, its nice and quiet cruising. Has an immob fitted. its a high spec model with option extras, its got electric windows, electric mirrors, headlight washers(don't work), speaker fade, did have heated seats from factory, electric sunroof, has air con aswell, altho will need a re-gas. bad points. fuel needle doesnt work, its up and down erratically, but the fuel light does work so no issues of running out. have spare clocks which should solve this. front seats do not match rears. drivers door and passenger wing are a poor colour match has a small rust patch on the sunroof panel. drips abit of oil aswell, only needed to top it up a few times, its not a bad oil leak. run rough on petrol when cold, its fine once warmed up, I run it on gas so have no investigated it. its a great car and ill probally regret selling but ive got my self a truck again and with a land rover also and a beetle project drive space is lacking. car is located in sheffield and I am looking for £1000

it will be the carriers that need shaving not the calipers, so no issues of lleaking fluid etc. however as said get the lower spec carriers(the same as on mk2-3 polos too) and this should allow you to not need any spacers atall, as they don't have the hoop over the caliper.

check both rad hose are getting warm, if ones cold the stat will not be opening, also make sure the fan comes on as it should, ive been driving mine around for a few weeks with a non working fan, its perfectly fine when moving, but when in traffic or stationary it starts to creep up.

his usual MoT man said if the subframe came back repaired rather than replaced he'd fail it ) If it was repaired properly and he failed it a simple call to vosa would sort that problem out, or even just the threat of calling them. id fix it doesnt sound like many problems, luxary cars like this can be a wallet killer to fix, better knowing this one is pretty decent rather than gettin another nail.

the sumps off of mondeo/escort tds kinda fit, but they have cut outs for a crankseal that the sump bolts to, so you need to change the crank seal too.

instead of modding the inlet pipe, u can use the inlet off of a escrot or mondeo td and blank the egr valve, inlet then points to the front. looks better too

some curse word been talked in this thread. ive lpg'g my 325 e30, cost me about £200using second hand stuff and cheap bouht bits and £120 of that was buying a new wide band lc-1 to help with setup and tuning, got a donut tank in the boot, still got plenty of boot space.
mines a open loop basic system, which returns about 20mpg, which is pretty much the same as it gets on petrol, power loss is minimal, noticeable but not massive. if its setup right youll be well happy and nearly half ur fuel costs.
