Great choice Bruce. Loads of potential, which you will have no problem in realising. I only posted a pic of one of these this week - they look better than ever IMO.

I haven't nominated yet, and only will if others haven't already nominated my choices. For me, there are a couple of suggestions - 1. Make the nominations thread sticky 2. Make it clearer in the OP that you are looking for nominations, not votes. We are getting the same things nominated again and again, which makes me think that people might believe they are voting. I would spell it out - if your choice has been nominated already, no need to do it again - just vote when the vote is open. As for the age of the Project threads, that's just because some of us are getting old I am admittedly less and less interested in the cars on here because they're too modern for me, but 'retro' is a rolling thing, as is the age of people on here.

Seeing cars like this makes me think we have diluted the OOOFFFF reaction on here. That is in another league to pretty much anything else I can think of.

I'd check all of your screen and door rubbers too. Less damp to worry about inside if you are letting less water in.

Well the acclaim is a lot better put together, much more reliable and I guess cheeper to make than the dolomite. Its more of a newer 1300, rather than a dolomite. (Cheep, FWD, economical, basic but with comfy seats) It cant really compared, as there really was not much triumph in an acclaim. Not that thats a bad thing, as mentioned, they resist rust pretty well (for a BL/J product) and are very reliable, well put together etc. Basically everything 70's Triumphs were not It's a compact 4 door saloon with Triumph badge on the bonnet, I don't think a comparison is exactly unfair. Sounds like you are an Acclaim fan after all. Funny, I thought you were trying to swap yours for a Toledo/Dolly only a few months ago after being underwhelmed? Seems odd;) Only jesting, each to their own I guess.....

Not really sure about these. Acclaims were fairly common when I was a kid and were never desirable in any way. In some ways, the performance from a 1.3 is pretty impressive for the time. On the other hand, smaller engine size aside, this is a slower, less desirable car to the Dolly Spint that Triumph were selling 10 years earlier. Progress?

Love it! 356's are a pretty good starting point though. The Bomber seats are a nice detail too - experimenting there myself at the mo

MG ZS 2.0 Turbo Really??! I thought these only came with a K series engine, up to a 1.8 or the 2.5 KV6? or is it a Diesel? Good, overlooked cars anyway and I like the OP (diesel)Cost me £900, ride is harsh and for a derv it aint that great on juice BUT it's a hoot on boost as it's been tweaked and putting out 250 ft lb (ish) of torque

what are those wheels as I really like them. They're image RM2's. I know because my Olympic wears em too.

Thanks for the great replys and I have had the tracking done many times now and had to replace passenger lower finished the drivers side is unknown! The canned is also set to a tenth difference each side! Since fitting my winter wheels its the same and the offset is much higher! For instance a straight road with canned I have to hold the wheel slightly the other way to correct it! Maybe due to a very low castor angle not pulling the wheels in! Also I have no arbs When you say canned, do you mean camber? What are your measurements from your tracking? If you post those up, we may be able to tell more. There is a fine balance between camber, castor, KPI angle (even without a KPI) wishbone angles etc. When you lower, and add offset, all of these things are upset.

I had one for a few years. In standard form, they're no sports car. They are a nice, well engineered cruiser that seat 4 people comfortably. I'm pretty sure the chassis and floorpan is the same as a Hillman Hunter Estate. The 1725cc is quite torquey, but pretty coarse at high revs. The steering is recirculating ball so very smooth but not a lot of feel. Foot mounted dip switch is quirky but not very practical. Overdrive is always cool though. Mine had some very period chrome steels which had a bigger offset and reduced the issue that they always look a little too narrow in track. Let it go for nothing in the end because I couldn't afford the welding to get it through an MOT and was doing a midnight flit

Love it! In terms of the engineering that must have gone in to it, I think it is very slick. I think it is an absolute sleeper. The silhouette has been retained, no add on body mods to shout about the performance. I actually love the fact that it is wider, because it would make someone look twice, but not be sure on what had changed.

Each to their own and all that, and I am not one of these health and safety warriors but I can see that this technique is a risky one. All it takes in that position is to get whatever it is you are rubbing on the wheel to get caught in a part of the wheel other than the rim e.g. applying too much pressure and catching between the spokes, and you have a very fast, very spinny thing being pulled around by the wheel and hitting you in the face very fast. As has already been pointed out, you being more than an arms stretch away from being able to switch the ignition off just makes it even more stupid. Just remove the wheel and take your time......

I feel your dilemma. This option may be too late, but, if you can cope with using your MP3 player instead of a head unit, that will give you another choice. If you have a receipt for the headunit, take it back. Then, buy a small amp with a direct aux in socket. Secure that anywhere out of the way. Run a cable from the amp to a position in front of you, where you then plug in your MP3 player. Job done and as out of sight as you can get. That's what I did anyway. There's a 150W amp under my glovebox, a toggle switch to control power and a cable that connects to my phone fed through a new hole below the heater. DON'T put your headunit in the glovebox, that is an accident waiting to happen.
