Firstly sorry for the curse word post but this is bugging me. Ive just gone out and bought a new head unit for my 67 Triumph 1300. The problem is that the car is not designed to have a radio and thus there isn't anywhere obvious to put it. I'm not after advice on how to fit it I can work that out myself more of where to fit. I'm sure many people on here have had the same problem so please can you show me your solutions? This is my dash although an old picture from the day I picked the car up. It has been significantly tidied up since then and has no wiring on show anymore. I'm thinking the best place to fit is underneath the glove box as the parcel shelf in the centre is too shallow. Paul p.s. mods I wasn't sure whether or not this should be here or in tech if ive got it wrong my apologies and please feel free to move it

fasten to the footwell/inner wing If where your saying is where I'm thinking fastened to underside of parcel shelf in footwell alongside inner wing that bit is pressed card and I'm not sure it would hold the weight of a head unit its already showing its age.

Those wires are gone gone gone ;D
I'm now thinking of actually putting it inside the glovebox so its hidden from view?

Depends what it looks like, but what about hiding the back of it in a box and putting it in the middle on the dash top? I think that would put it in roughly the same position relative to the wheel as in a Mk2 Jetta. Guess it would need the radio to look retro-ish to work tho.

If you're clever with the wiring and use a detatchable faceplate radio, you could mount the carcass under the drivers seat, and inset the faceplate into the front of the sunvisor.
Seen that done a bunch of times.

If it were me, I'd be looking at mounting it suspended under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Where you have a couple rocker switches in the above pic. It's not like any driver ever wants the passenger to touch the radio anyway ;D

on a more sensible note.. i was toying with the idea of using an ipod (or generic mp3 player) and some of those speakers amplifier type things you can get with a 12v input.. site the speakers somewhere suitable (shelves under dash look great) and the mp3 player velcro'd somewhere handy.. no wiring as such easy to remove nothing to cut or drill and you can carry your mp3 with u when not in car...

I feel your dilemma. This option may be too late, but, if you can cope with using your MP3 player instead of a head unit, that will give you another choice. If you have a receipt for the headunit, take it back. Then, buy a small amp with a direct aux in socket. Secure that anywhere out of the way. Run a cable from the amp to a position in front of you, where you then plug in your MP3 player. Job done and as out of sight as you can get. That's what I did anyway. There's a 150W amp under my glovebox, a toggle switch to control power and a cable that connects to my phone fed through a new hole below the heater. DON'T put your headunit in the glovebox, that is an accident waiting to happen.

My HU in my car, is only used to amplify my ipod - radio doesn't work, and I've got no use for CDs Grab yourself a decent-ish mp3 player (there's a reason ipods are so popular btw...) a small amplifier, and bob's your uncle. Ipod directly controls volume too, so no more worries

MP3s the little things are so tiny I just loose them. hence the CD radio. I listen to the radio a lot and sometimes cds. What I have bought looks pretty retro and thankfully has no garish flashing lights

I'm with Ben, right hand side of the dash, from experience with minis and a 1300, passenger side of the dash is too far to reach comfortably/safely whilst driving. You'd be reaching across to turn up The Archers and plough into a bus stop, instantly killing the 20 nuns carrying baskets full of kittens and maiming several innocent geese. Not cool.

Right I got the tape measure and the stanley knife out and discovered this.
By cutting the card cover in front of the heater matrix there is just enough space dead central of the dash on the parcel shelf. Ive had to cut the holder down a bit but it fits and looks like it should be there. Now just got to cut the trim peice to fit around the radio. I will get a photo later as its now in place but not fully wired in.

Discovered meaning, did what Justyn and I told you too. Lol. Yes but I did take my own measurements and stuff first as it seamed a ruddy tight fit and it is mms to spare and still a little proud at the front.
