Sorry if this is a repost, but new to me! Love a good sleeper !!! Bit ugly but original. "The ultimate stealth 928. Artz made around 6 as a promotion for the VW Golf. Its a lot wider though than a Golf (see the one on the left) and has completely custom glass and panels."

I've got a book "Ultimate Automobiles" that has this in it plus a lot of other interesting cars, including the 944 estate featured in an other thread. I'll have to dig it out.

To me, the mark of a good sleeper is looking totally stock from the outside. (And possibly, but by no means in all cases, a little dishevelled too.)

Love it! In terms of the engineering that must have gone in to it, I think it is very slick. I think it is an absolute sleeper. The silhouette has been retained, no add on body mods to shout about the performance. I actually love the fact that it is wider, because it would make someone look twice, but not be sure on what had changed.

I remember in late 60's early 70's reading about a limited production of a Beetle with a Porsche 911 engine. I seem to think it had to be mid mounted rather than hanging out the back. A predecessor of a 928 Golf ?

Mark Although I do have the above book the one I was thinking of is "Extraordinary Automobiles", Peter Vann, Gerald Asaria published in 1983 (ISBN: 0-85429-420-1). Shows, the Artz, 944 and 928 break, Styling Garage Merc 500SE gullwing, Bertone, Pininfarina, Sbarro Golf Turbo, B+B T-bar and full convertible 928, Opel Corsa spider, Aston Martin Bulldog, Citroen Penthouse CX (nearly like the Top Gear conversion), Panther (6 wheel), Wolfrace Sonix (6 wheels), Mardikian stretch Ferrari 400, Vector W-2. But no Golf with 928 running gear Must fire up the scanner...
