Hi all, couple of mates from my local forum are members so thought Id post up. Most of my recent car history has been 90s Japanese, twin turbo Soarers and Aristos, and currently my major project, Aristo single turbo is in the garage in bits. This started out as getting a Saab 900 turbo 16S, but noticed a classic 99 on eBay and it really piqued my interest and got me looking about. So, welcome to my '71 Saab 99 4 speed, powered by the 1.7 Triumph engine. Its a lovely little thing, after a quick carb strip, clean and tune by ear its now running sweet, just need to check the brakes over and its off for an MOT Plans, well the paint is terrible, been sprayed in the past, badly. So full paint, remove the tow bar change/retrim the interior and thats it. Id like to lower it but theres a distinct lack of lowering springs available, and maybe some rims. Now, the pics. Has a freewheel gearbox, throwback from the 96's Epic seatbelts So thanks for looking, and if anyone knows of a good early 99 specialist or car breaking please post up

Hi craig, wondered when you'd join up. Don't worry about finding lowering springs - I've got something that will do the job if you need it.......

Thanks for the welcome all Chris, I can legitimately post now I own a retro car lol, and by 'something' do you mean 'angle grinder' lol Luckygti, do you mean the rips and tears? Teaboy its a J spec Lexus GS300 but powered by the 2JZ engine that later went to the Supra.

Congratulations! The chrome bumpered 99's are a rare sight indeed. Shouldn't be too hard to fit a later 2.0 engine + transmission if you choose to go that way.

Tackled the appauling brakes this weekend. Assumed there was a seized caliper or 2 somewhere, but no, front brakes have been chaged in the recent past, with good pads and discs. Very recent flexi hoses and brake pipes all round as well so now In thinking maybe the servo is biffed. I know its a 40 year old car but its got discs all round and oposed piston calipers on the front to it should pretty good. Any suggestions?

Cool. Love the look of these early 99s. Mrs_Seth has just been looking over my shoulder and reckoned it'd make a perfect commuter car.

Nice car, very much an unusual choice of ride!
I'm assuming you mean the pedal is good and hard but needs a lot of pressure?
My bet: Servo Problem or perhaps the vacuum feed pipe to it from the inlet manifold has collapsed internally- does the pedal feel different when you switch the engine off and pump the pedal 10 times? If so then there is no vacuum in the servo.

Cool. Love the look of these early 99s. Mrs_Seth has just been looking over my shoulder and reckoned it'd make a perfect commuter car. Its a cheeky little number isnt it lol, thats exactly why I bought it. Tax exempt, less than 100 quid a year insurance, its very appealing.

Nice car, very much an unusual choice of ride! I'm assuming you mean the pedal is good and hard but needs a lot of pressure? Thanks It will be when its finished lol. Its unusual sure, but also very familiar, very surprised how little the shape changed over the years. Re brakes, yes thats exactly what I mean, very wooden pedal, firm but no power. Ill look at the hoses over the weekend, and try and source a servo. Here we go for the parts search!

you know that the steering wheel is pretty rare and in demand I do indeed, it came with the car. Not the best with no power steering but would I go back to stock? No way, Ive seen it!! Doesnt look out of place either, I don't think.
