Making a start on the body now. Started by attacking the front suspension. It all seems to be coming apart fairly easily. The suspension set-up that I have is effectively the same as the Goodwood Revival racers (not the Academy ones, which are more standardish), with the addition of telescopic dampers front & rear. To get you all excited this is a comparison of the standard & race spring sizes! Are you running dropped pans to?

IIRC there were 3 BL vehicles built of different styles, all built at the same time, the Sherpa, Princess, and, possibly a TR7. or it could have been a Marina Pickup, BL, bless them ,were generous with their sponsored cars, I think they had a big input, and seem to remember big input in how they turned out, I think there may have even been a "dispute" with the final look of one of the vehicles, and caused one of them to be very late in being finished, CC did however maintain from almost day 1, a build policy with a chopped and channeled Hillman Avenger, ford pops which were somehow used as giveaways at the NSRA Nationals I followed the build of that Avenger, I believe Chrysler donated it to CC but then, when it was finished, they were really cross because it was no longer recognisable as an Avenger! I think it was built by Bob Wellstead, who built Moulin Rouge, the chopped and channeled 1935 Hillman Minx, thats still about, I think in the states? I cant find any pics of the avenger

Always thought one of these 2 doored and a Alfa v6 would be a good car, major work to do convincingly, with lengthening the doors 50mm and getting the shuts done so they look factory

I don’t “tell” D Management anything. I plant tiny seeds, then retire to a safe distance and see whether they germinate. Those seeds need to be something like "the sooner I get on with the truck, the sooner the garden will be sorted"

Fill it with water, connect it, then do a pressure leak down test, that will probably tell you what you need to know, then you can hand ball the engine over and see if its locked without doing anything else than getting it wet,

Hooorahhh, got something done today, got the wifes Jobs out of the way, and have a bit of free time, So Onwards and upwards, Fuel Pump/Filter time, It has always been my intention to run the pump lower than the tank to do away with the need for a swirl pot, not ideal, but it does work to a fashion, then decided the pump in this position would be vulnerable to speed bump strike, I had already made and welded the bracket to fit this when the van was on the spit, with a lot of swearing, I did manage to remove 99% of the bracket, so, Now, make a new totally different style of bracket, Done, spot, and drill the holes thru the shell, so now the bracket fits, bolt the pump and filter to the bracket, Ok, forgot to get some jubilee clips, there's still not much open for bits like this where I can walk into, so off down to the local B&Q, found a pack of 3 clips, @ £5.50!!!!!!!!!! fec that, so I voted with my feet and walked 200 Mts to Wickes, found the same clips in packs of 2, at an exorbitant 66p so, in my euphoria I bought 2 packs Bolted things up, now for a raid on my very depleted box of Braided fittings In the bottom of the box I found this little gem A AN6 drybreak coupler, so, I can now remove and change the filter without having the drain the tank, only to find my last straight -6 fitting I was going to use is for rubber braid rather than Teflon, which I have plumbed the car in, Bumhats......Note to self, Go To Ebay and order the right bit, EDIT,....................... 30 mins forward ......................2nd note to oneself........ LOOK IN BOX, LOOK IN THE RIGHT BOX, The right bit is there, BIG BUMHATS, ok, so, Ebay will deliver my new one on Monday....Just as well I don't need it urgently

Many DIY stores like B&Q only stock 4.6 or 5.8 hardware (Gamma, Praxis and Karwei only had 4.6 when I last needed bolts in NL, Hornbach and Bauhaus have 8.8 ones as standard I think). How about copper slip and (cast) aluminium? I use ceramic grease for this application, but I have no idea if it makes any difference. On my first resto, a BMW R90S, more then 20 years ago and i still have the bike, i used many SS bolts in alloy castings (engine and gearbox) and always used copper grease (copper slip) and the bolts still come loose without any problems Peter
Often wondered about galvanic problems with copper slip, introducing a 3rd metal into the equation, sacrificial anodes do help with stainless, and you are right, about loading stainless bolts, I never trust a tension loaded stainless bolt, and I don't trust modern bolts, I had some 10mm 8.8 Allen bolts BNP, these needed to be torqued up to a specific, I pulled 3 heads off 10 bolts, supplied by a reputable seller, later admitted they were Chinese knock offs, I think my Guvnor threatend to sue them for 1 of 4 machines not being able to run that nights production because of their rubbish, funnily enough, every single Allen bolt was Unbreako after that.

I'm curious about "Red Lead" primer, Is there any lead content in it, Everything with lead content has been excluded from the general public, or at least, significantly reduced, Lead Solder in Electronics, Lead solder in plumbing, Lead in Household Paint, Lead in Petrol, Lead in printing, Etc Buy a tin of Red Oxide primer, nowhere on the tin does it say "May Contain Lead", and, same with the white oxide primer which used to use white lead oxide, and Red oxide Primer used to use Red Lead Oxide in it, Think it may just be an assumption that it still contains lead. its not such a bad thing, BUT some of the chemicals that are added to modern paints are still very toxic, and most are not accumalatives that mount up over time, you need massive exposure to them to be toxic, The problem with lead is its an accumulative, which as far as I know does not dissipate over time from the body, it sits somewhere in the Brain, same as other Heavy metals such as Mercury, Cyanide and Arsenic Ian - You are very correct in your statement 'Lead' is excluded due to H & S / Environmental regulations etc - lots of primers use the word 'Zinc' but zinc can also be quite dangerous - especially ingested has a dust - I still get quite annoyed at the amount of wonder primers & magic rust treatments that are marketed within the automotive sector brandishing all sorts of claims about how good it is / how long it lasts etc yet such products have a complete lack of any verified laboratory / field testing data undertaken or published GALVAFROID, The original stuff was nasty kit, stopped your life early if used enclosed spaces, awful stuff to use, but it worked, and worked well, use anywhere enclosed and I would be falling over from the fumes, then wanting to chuck for the rest of the day, that was the one and only time I used the stuff enclosed.
