Hi guys, I've persuaded my vinyl plotter to work on Windows 10 so I am able to offer custom vinyl cuts and designs. I COULD go to eBay and flog a load of naff rubbish 'I'm only speeding cos I need a poo' type stickers but I don't have the time or energy to deal with that and would rather do low(er) volume custom/period sign writing and re-pro work for the clientele of Retro Rides. For example, trim stickers like the Citroen 'TZD' logo, Ford 'XR3i' etc or backflashes, stuff like that. I'm open to making up anything within my abilities (and the machines) so if you want a quote to get something made up don't hesitate to ask, I am not going to be pricing myself silly here so don't be shy. I will add examples as I cut them as I am building a bit of a portfolio as I go I can cut anything from a badge sized sticker up to van graphics so hit me up with what you need! Fitting service available in Bristol if required. Replica Jeep 'UPCOUNTRY' Suspension package logos Mazda font door logos for a Demio HUGE garage sign

Ah, good timing. I'm currently looking for someone who can make a decal to act as a stencil for a custom paint job. Can you print on something easy to remove... I've read about something called 'masking vinyl'?
Also, could you do the Porsche bonnet crest as a sticker in different colours?

Are you up for a bit of a challenge? Can you print black on to clear vinyl?

I ended up doing the eBay route as things went a bit quiet for me (I do reproductions on the side, most vinyls that need designing etc.). I have no idea how people intend on making a profit selling things for 99p with free delivery on there as it's 70 odd pence just to post a letter these days. That's before eBay & PayPal costs, and then if someone decides to return it or if they pretend it didn't arrive, you have to refund them AND still pay PayPal (they now keep their share of the refund, so you have to add it back on for the seller to get their lot). The mind boggles.
I think everyone's housewife must have bought a hobby cutter, as it's gone a bit asphyxiated in that market. I've sold one decal on eBay in the last month. I sympathise with anyone who might rely on the income for such things!

I just have the cutter from my dad who bought it years ago and thought I’d offer the services to help RR members out where custom work could potentially be expensive. It’s just a hobby for me I suppose but not an ideal situation for people who are trying to rely on sales like that, I could also never understand how people make money at some of the prices on eBay.

It’s just a hobby for me I suppose but not an ideal situation for people who are trying to rely on sales like that, I could also never understand how people make money at some of the prices on eBay. It's just how it is - I recently put in a custom order for £50 worth of resin badges for a particular type of car and thought I'd re-create some commonly-aged badges. Figured out I could make money back without too much fuss. Had to wait 6 weeks for the order and literally within 10 mins of them arriving (honestly) someone else popped up on the group with the same idea and hoovered up all the orders. Couldn't have made it up. I did do some recreations for a randomer recently but it was hard work - had to re-create the signage from a rubbish photo, then spend ages perfecting it in AI, then the cutter messed up the weeding frame, and he wanted some extra designs but had no idea what he wanted... I probably spent 3 or 4 evenings sorting it all out, and the total 'profit' was about £15. I imagine it will get a bit easier after a while, but you see groups on Facebook where it's stay-at-home mums pumping out stuff for what must be 50p an hour. Only difference is that they're literally just cutting from downloaded/free vectors, so if you can avoid all that then it's generally going to be not too bad. I'd recommend getting some HTV and having a go with T-Shirts though - that's a bit of fun. Can manage it with a domestic iron, although it's obviously much easier with a heat press.

Fairly sure I have some HTV in amongst my rolls of vinyl, father had a heat press but I have a feeling that got sold on as he used it so little.

I can see where there's more money in HTV, as you can get t-shirts for less than £2, print them, and people charge as much as £20+ for them. A bit trickier than normal vinyl as you don't use transfer paper, print on reverse and (usually) only peel the backing once it has cooled, but I imagine there's a good market for t-shirts/caps/etc with retro car badges/logos on them.

I've got a 64" wide print & cut machine with white ink so I can do stickers with clear backgrounds, also got a heat press for t-shirts etc. Been doing this for around 20 years, but even competition locally is getting like E-bay with several start ups selling and fitting graphics for ridiculously cheap prices. T-shirts have gone the same way unfortunately.
