Got to be happy with the new studs, I would guess their load rating is probably 4 times stronger, Is the coilover on the rear in the factory position, ? I realise it would have been just a shock originally?, And, It may be an optical illusion, but it looks like the coilover is in a position where it could go into a falling rate of springing which is undesirable.

Any further progress on the steering front??? There is a bit, nothing photo worthy, but the rack is now mounted in what seems about the right place, I will bend the steering arms when I'm ready to do the final setting up, but it looks a whole lot better, the biggest issue with using a Minor steering rack is the stub that comes out of the rack is 5/8" 36 spline, not the usual 9/16 36, I have something that will possibly sort this, but Mr Postman is on a go slow, lots of other things on the go, but all small things, they all add up.

That bit with the parking brake failing ... did you say to your boys "Don't tell your Mum"? Didn't do THAT again. I also remember in my university "amateur mechanic" days, doing a headgasket and t-belt on a Mk. 1 Rabbit/Golf diesel. Couldn't get it running afterward ... had lost the prime on the pump. Lacking a vacuum pump or common sense, i used my lungs to create the negative pressure and predictably, took a BIG swig of diesel, which I was burping for a few days. Utterly vile. Sorry for the hi-jack but you got my memory going. John I have memories of 50 years ago, when it seemed like there dumped cars on every corner, my friends dad had a hillman imp engine in a frame, which I now know was a climax pump engine, we were challenged to clean and service it, then get it running, did all what was needed, but managed to dump the fuel out of the tank into the garden by accident, so..... there was a Old commer Van dumped around the corner, off we trotted with a coffee can and pipe to syphon some fuel out to get our engine started, my mate tried with no success, so over to me,, wiggle the pipe, and BIG suck, yes, it was diesel, and yes you can taste it for days....

I used a similar labelling technique for wiring up my cortina 15 years or so ago, but dymo printers were not readily available then, clear heat shrink, made the labels using a lap top and a printer, type everything you want, select the font and size you want, print, cut with scissors and attach to loom using heat shrink,

OOOOerrrr that's not pretty, I hope its not the motor gone and shorted out the cap, reminds me I need to sort out my big compressor too, that leaks oil like the Tory Canyon and my silent compressor has done the start/run cap too, not had a chance to check, hope its not the motor.

Heres a silly question Re the Roof vent, mine was in the back of the van when I bought it, with many others too, (6 I think), which way round do they go, I have looked at many, some forward facing, some rearward facing, forward I think will cause issues when driving with it pulling up and open, rearwards, pushing it shut, I have a feeling they were fitted haphazardly at the factory by whoever fancied fitting them.......

As in title, 5/8 bore 36 spline steering uj, not bothered about other end, as long as it not knackered.

I40 -145 hp is about what I'm aiming for with my van, and, concentric is starting to sound good, my bleed nipple interferes with the chassis rail, I might end up with fitting a banjo with a bleed nipple on the end of a pipe,

Is here a build thread on the one above v8ian? Not as far as I know, Nick is very private but to a few people, and had been building some of the best cars this country has seen, for most of his life....
