Am I right in thinking the paintwork is largely original? If so, it's in remarkable condition. It's a great colour too. Looks so much better being a non GTE kitted model. I can't remember when I last saw an early non hatchback version, there can't be many left now?

Looks to be in superb condition and just dig those banded steels. Love the sleeper looks, less is more as they say. Top marks for a great car.

Soooooperb mate! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) This'll make a lovely noise on those throttle bodies. Stock AFH is 100 bhp IIRC, with the 4 branch and properly mapped this should be great with excellent economy to boot. Win win situation! ;D These early Polos weigh virtually nothing too so the power/weight ratio will be very favourable. Lovely car.

For me this is a perfect example of cars that I like now but hated way back when. As a teenager in the early 80's a mate of mine's Dad had one of these. We hated it, even back then it was a rough example. It was slow and rolled in the corners like a drunk camel on roller skates. The interior was vile with teak "look" table and wardrobe and orange cushions ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Everytime it pulled away, turned, slowed down or went over a bump you could here the hangers rattling inside the wardrobe. Hideous thing back then. Yet here we are all these years later and I'm loving this. As said by others, what a great alternative to the usual VW campers (not that I don't like them too). I reckon this could be really nice when it's finished. Period colour respray, perhaps a more modern engine, natch a bit of lowering and stiffen to sort out the roly poly suspension (already done) and a decent retrim will see this turned into a very cool camper. Keep up the good work mate. Richard.

I think it's got to be worth giving the engine a good check over and clean up whilst it's out. Good luck with the rebuild.

Some stunning cars there mate. What a fantastic line up! With regards the i200 Manta, what year were these built? It has the Manta C shell (4 slot front panel and GTE/GSI/Exclusive bodykit etc) yet appears to retain the old 4 speed box from the Manta B? I know the ultra rare GTJ Manta was a bitsa of B and C series cars during the change over '82/'83, is this from that sorta era? Whatever, it looks an absolutely superb example. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Nova Sport is a corker too. Edit, just read the above - that explains a lot!

Hi and welcome to RR. Great selection of cars you got there mate. I've had a few Manta's in the past, just got to love 'em. Also had a mint Nova SR and a GSi too. The split screen Minor looks superb. What is the spec on the A series engine? The Firenza DS appears to be well tidy, what motor are you planning for it? 'Poor old HC Viva is looking a bit sorry for itself, ravages of time an all that...

Cracking cars these. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) The 2.5 24V conversion looks like a great idea, should go really well too. Those new rear lights are sooooo much better than those horrid ones that were on it before. (Sorry!) Nice having the leather interior too. Looks like it could do with a clean/recolour and bit of hide food to refresh it up though? I think it looks great on the silver BBS rims, Ronal's will be good too though. Lovely motor Gem.

Stunning car in stunning condition. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Let's see a pic of the instrument binnacle/dashboard so we can fully appreciate the level of standard equipment on this 1979 car. As much as I hate to admit it, by the mid to late 70's, J' cars were streets ahead of the European/British cars in technical and equipment level terms. Whilst we stood still they leapt ahead. For me, this is one of the few cars that really doesn't need much of a drop. 'Couple of inches max I reckon - already looks fab as it is. The 280 ZX front struts/vented discs sounds an excellent idea. Keep us updated with plenty of pics please!

Absolutely stunning car mate. Whilst Midnight blue is very rare for a mk2 Escort, I have seen it before - though never on a Ghia model. The interior though is a first for me, I've never seen that colour before - uber rare indeed. So not only a rare (non metallic) colour, uber rare interior colour but manual 'box too. You say the car has been recommissioned, but surely that paintwork isn't original? ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) It looks totally mint. Beautiful. Can I ask what the switch is next to the glovebox door? It's the only bit I don't like!

That looks a real peach mate. I'm assuming it has been recently restored? I can't remember seeing a mk2 in that colour before, is it the original colour? Lots of the Ghia models were finished in metallic silver or gold so it's nice to see something different. Let's see some pics of the interior then, all that lovely velour seat trim and wood dash are a must see! Period push button radio in the centre console with quartz clock below? C'mon lets see!
BTW, your avatar made chuckle! ;D

Alright Jon - you may know me off Club G40 - I'm Breadman on there? I've followed this thread through and although some of the stuff you've done isn't to my taste I have to say the quality and effort put in is excellent. The World would be a boring place if would all liked the same thing anyway. Good work on the seat foam replacemnt too. I've got to replace the base/bolster foam on the Corrado driver seat that I've got for mine. You can feel the metal frame through the fabric, as yet there is no wear on the fabric so I better fix it before I fit them. One of the many good things on this site apart from the huge variety and quality of cars is that there is none of that stupid "Karma" stuff where you get slated for not conforming or not being as clued up as some people. I'm sure you know who/what I mean Jon? Keep up the good work mate, Cheers, Richard.

Definately agree on the six pot ones being nice but they are sooo thirsty. 3.0 CIH straight six ones are serious drinkers! We had a 2.5 V6 manual Omega saloon. I bought it when it was a year old with 11k on the clock and obviously being virtually new it was a minter. It was ever so comfortable and a great cruiser but TBH the performance/economy ratio was curse word. It went well enough once into its stride on the open road but considering it had 170 bhp it wasn't much cop. Fuel consumption was circa 18 - 22mpg around town with very low 30's on a long run!

Yeah, show/find us an Astra of this age that hasn't got rusty rear arches then. Front wings are easy peasy bolt on too. Should be easy enough to repair the leading edges of inner wings. The rest of the shell/panels look pretty good to me. I can't see much wrong with it really. Good luck to him I say.

Just reiterating what everyone else has said really. The towing was madness, but great all the same! Superb to see you're gonna be saving this one from the same fate as the Morris 8. The dodecagon idea and fabrication are brilliant! Actually the camper doesn't look that bad considering its age and the fact it's been sitting exposed to the elements in a field for the last 3 years. I reckon this could be turned into something really special, OE on the outside with the Essex/auto installed and a sensible drop on some period wheels/banded steels so it cruises nicely. You don't wanna be going too low with a camper, you'll smash your cups and saucers if the ride's too hard! Keep us posted with plenty of pics, Richard.
