Sorry there may be family connections but surely you could start with a better Astra donor than that?

Sorry there may be family connections but surely you could start with a better Astra donor than that? Don't be a git... If he likes this car it means something to him and he wants to do it why the hell shouldn't he, sure a better car could be found, but following that logic he should just go and buy a minter and be done with it.. Good luck to him I say and keep the updates coming, It doesn't look that bad anyway, if you think that's bad I'll send you photos of my mustang that'll make you cry

Yeah, show/find us an Astra of this age that hasn't got rusty rear arches then. Front wings are easy peasy bolt on too. Should be easy enough to repair the leading edges of inner wings. The rest of the shell/panels look pretty good to me. I can't see much wrong with it really. Good luck to him I say.

Little update for you all, coming on well so far front end is all done just need to get my hands on a GTE bonnet now. Currently working on sorting the D/S rear suspension turret and boot floor, then its time to move on to the dreaded rear arches lol Heres a few pics to show the progress so far and a few of the little details I’ve added......... Replaced the pov spec dials with some out from an SR I think? These will be getting sprayed white.......... New spoiler............ Strip out!!! (temped to keep it like this??) Tidy new front end.......... Added some bonnet lifters GTE rear lights......... Current pain in the ........... More to come...................

Nice work Keeping the side rubbing strips off for a clean look ? trying to keep it as OE as possible, think the black and white work well together to much white on a white car looks a bit bland

Mk2 Astras were mainly what I grew up around. White F reg 1.4, then when that started smoking too much up hills, a very tatty blue G reg 1.2. I hated them at the time, and remember when both of them were picked up for the scrappy, I couldn't have been happier. Now I'd love a GTE.
Yours looks so clean now you've worked your magic! How did you get your engine bay to come out so clean like that? Good luck and keep the updates coming!

How did you get your engine bay to come out so clean like that? Good luck and keep the updates coming! The bulk head has just had a dam good clean the rest has been rubbed down and painted again, had a lot of rust and welding to take care of under there so a repaint was the only choice. Yes it is a 1.4 which is why its been fairly easy to take care of all the rust and give it a good paint under there, such a small engine in a fairly large engine bay. I may be temped to sell up when i have finsihed as i already have another project in mind, but not sure if i should sell it as a 1.4 or take the time to put the red top 2.0 16v engine in. Can't see a mk2 GTE replica being worth much regardless how clean and rust free it is and i don't think there would be much difference in the sale price regardless of it being a 1.4 8v or a 2.0 16v, if anything keeping as a 1.4 may make it appeal to a wider choice of buyers?
