Diff, this is the dogs whatsits mate. Personally I love the way it looks with the wheels finished in silver. What a great conversion this has turned out to be. Modern engine with big power, excellent economy and turnkey practicality - it really is win win win! If it were mine I'd have machined off the NISSAN lettering on the cam cover - nothing against the Nissan engine though, it's superb. One thing that has surprised me is where you put the air filter, at the back of the bay and above the exhaust manifold is far from ideal? Surely it would have looked neater and worked better if it were routed towards the front and ducted through the inner wing with the filter under the arch? Please note this isn't a dig or moan, I really like this car! In fact, I'm a huge '60's Ford fan despite my current RR forum name! My first car was a series 2 1600E and I loved it.

Stunning work mate, I'm really enjoying this thread. I really like the theme/route you are taking with this, modified and improved in all areas but keeping it original looking. Fantastic.
All the more impressive is that someone as young as yourself is enthusiastic, motivated and skilled enough to take on something like this. Mucho respect to you, well done and keep us posted with your superb project.
Good luck mate, Richard.

Hey, dull old Volvo 340 with a BMW engine. ;D Do it do it! Remember to keep the Volvo standard looking though, sleepers FTW! That M powered 240 looks a beast too.

Fantastic project, I really like these 944's. Why on earth was this car originally being broken for spares, it looks such a tidy example? Glad you're bringing it back to life.

That straight six is a heavy old lump, well done on moving it back. GT6 is a nice looking car, with the rear suspension sorted and engine moved back it seems like it's really coming together. Wheels really suit it too. Excellent work all round mate.

Soooopurb mate. How likely is to find a set of banded steels in someones garden that are not only the right pcd, but the right width and fitted with Avon slicks? I'd more likely step in rhino sh1t walking down the garden! I tend to agree with gurnersimps1963 on fitting the coolant pipes inside though, you can guarantee you'll damage one or both when your miles from home, it's curse word down with rain and dark. Brilliant project, keep us posted.

I think people like to see a tidy Metro because it's another of those cars that used to be everywhere but have almost disappeared now! Yours looks great - sometimes less is more...... Totally agree with oddball here. Damn this is one very tidy Metro, the immaculate looking paint works so well with the Revolutions - really looks great. I don't say it often, but this don't need lowering any more than it is. The handling was always good on these, with the wider wheels/tyres and slight drop on the front I bet it's like a little go-kart! Keep up the good work mate. BTW, that Imp is looking cool as well, very nice indeed.

These are very rare, to find one that wasn't bashed and trashed by a builder is even rarer! Nice having the Scirocco front seats, GT clocks and steering wheel too. I reckon it was a good move doing the suspension properly with a shock and spring kit. Might not be quite as low but still looks great. The 165/60's will suit it too, go nice on them steels. Prefer it without the splitter though (8th and 9th pic down) really looking the business there. Whilst a modern (turbo!)diesel conversion would be fantastic, I can't think of a VW engine that would fairly easily fit without lots of fabrication. The 1.9 from the 6n would go in but it's a bit of a plodder to say the least! The Polos are such a light car/van too, it'd be easy to make it nose heavy. If it were mine I'd go for the ubiquitous 3F GT conversion. 75 bhp out of the box, excellent economy and pretty quick up to around a ton for a standard 1.3. They'll go well beyond that, but it's all about acceleration with them. GT van FTW! Keep the pics coming, Cheers, Richard.

IIRC it was only the early mk2's saloons that were called Derby. Later ones like this were just called Saloon or Classic.

I arranged to meet Martin for the first time today as he only lives 5 minutes from me, had to check out this Polo. It really is a very tidy example indeed and drives really nicely. I can confirm it's as good as it looks in the pics. I was thinking about those Powerflex bushes being destroyed after such a short time. I wonder if the castor control washers which are convex had been fitted the wrong way around? They'd bite into the bush face and cause the damage seen, just a thought? Cheers, Richard.

Totally agree^^. Deleting the red grill and pin stripes was a good move too. The clear indicators and repeaters are a nice simple touch. Less is more an' all that. Very tidy car mate. Get some more detailed pics up, I love mk2 Polos!

Hi Martin, 'Tis a sh*tter about those bushes, I assume they are the ones on the TCA where the anti roll bar passes through? Does seem pretty pathetic that went like that after such tiny mileage. I can never work out why VW decided to park the rear wiper in the vertical postion on the Coupes rather than horizontally like on the Breadvans? Looks ungainly IMO. Your Polo does look good on those Hockenheim alloys too. I really will pop round for a chat and have a look sometime, it might give me back some mojo to do a bit more on mine! Cheers, Richard.

Absolutely top notch work there mate, the welding and repair sections you've made are excellent. I assume you'll give the car a full repaint in time, hopefully in the original black? 'Not sure on wheels yet, as you said without tyres and sitting on the ground it's difficult to comment. I know it's all been done before, but I do think though this would look fantastic lowered on a set of banded 15" steels with fairly low profile tyres. COOOOL.

Kat, the Polo looks absolutely stunning. I remember seeing the initial build over on Club Polo. You have put me to shame, my Polo is still no where near finished I've always said the GT 3F engine in a mk2 is a great combination. I reckon we must be the only 2 people to have done the mk3 bulkhead pedalbox/servo conversion on a mk2? Superb car Kat, keep us updated. Cheers, Richard.

yes,its not bad, mainly the bumpers that let it down.does have a rusty wing though.which I'm hoping to sorce on the cheap.but for £200..with full mot tax..I'm well chuffed with it. £200 Crikey that bargain city mate, especially with MOT 'n tax! Why is it when ever I'm looking at some nasty ol' piece of curse word the owner wants silly money for it?

Also, hows the gearbox holding up? - I understand its better than the 6N box. 6N boxes are of the chocolate teapot variety. The mk2/3 Polo 'box is much more durable. Many of the G40 boys with big power have no issues with them. They only need good quality fresh oil and they'll be fine.
