Its taken a while but heres the thread on my mk2. Boght the car as an mot failure in 1993 took about a year of tidying and welding to get it on the road . Lasted in that state for about 3 years before the crossflow started getting a bit tired so I put pinto in on the standard 4 speed, 2 weeks later the bottom end gave out, so it recieved a reground crank and a freshen up. 1997 while still being used as my daily driver I got driven into by a stolen car. 6 months it took to get it back together recieving a few custom touches like smoothed engine bay removed boot lock and opel manta seats. It was in this guise that it was in both Performance Ford in 1998 (feature done by Jon Hill ) and Classic Ford in 1999. Another 5 years of daily use took its toll and it needed another freshen up by now I had a digital camera so have some pics.

Thats how she went back on the road for a rolling road shoot out for Classic Ford Mag where she produced about 130 at the wheels about 2 hours after the mot and the longest journey on the road in 2 years. During the rebuild twin 45 dellortos were added , straight cut rs2000 gear box and a new set of 7x13 superlights with 175/50x 13 dunlops (lasted 4 weeks) . New corbeau buckets ,luke harnesses and 6 point safety devices cage. Loads of fresh metal was added sills , arches, top plates and about 4 sheets of steel along with 2 brand new doors that were a lucky find at Enfield autojumble.

The most important thing to me is that you know this car inside and out.
I do not think I have kept any of my cars for more than 3 years in the past.
However, my latest hatchling should be around for a very long time, as it lends itself to continual updates.
Love the wheels.

She's also had quite a few different set of wheels during ownership- started on rs4 spokes -then lotus rims- set of proper minilights - revolutions- another set of lotus rims- and the superlights.

Absolutely lovely! I love Mk 2s. Think I'll show this one to SWMBO. You never know it might change her views! Looking really good though.

Thought I'd update this thread as the normally reliable cortina threw its toys out of the pram after I challenged the wife to a drag at North Weald last weekend. Decided to give it a bit of a tune and clean on friday in preparation (did not want to lose, especially as she has previously run a mid 11 on the 1/8) , then went for drive . After a bit of enthusiastic driving the old girl started running rough and when i opened the bonnet I was getting flames from the first and second carb. Saturday afternoons strip down revealed this. Could not get it completely back together so missed out on the racing unfortunately. But have now pretty much decided to ditch the pinto for a zetec that I,ve been offered.

is that just the gasket - or is the head damaged? nice to see a Mk2 that hasnt been bodged with the wrong panels & a nasty paint colour ;D as has already been posted, the stance is perfect i love it

Might have enough meat left to skim it but compression already very high.

Dragged up from the depths of 18 months ago. going to be some big updates soon. Engine and gearbox gone , big hole were they used to live. New running gear hopefully here on sunday morning, 3 months of searching for a good doner al round the country and one found 2 miles away, why does it always happen like that.
Would take some pictures but nothing too exciting about an empty engine bay,
