Just thought it was worth a mention incase anyone else was in a similar situation. I advertised the car for £1500 on the mini cooper register as suggested. I was overwhelmed with responses and ended up selling it for £1600 sight unseen

Wow, the z4! somehow they've managed to make a good looking car look really daft with the silly camber and wood screws in the front bumper.

I am not selling here.
I just hoped I could get a few suggestions of its value as I know nothing about minis.
Its a 1969 Mk2 998cc cooper, been dismantled ages ago and boxed up, shell is stripped and needs full restoration. Its all original (no uprated parts) its all there apart from the grill. its been stored in a garage for 20+ years.
Got the V5 and new old plates.
Can anybody help?

This is my mates 740,
its got a T5 engine and a mahoosive turbo, custom tubular header, all custom stuff, still being developed/tuned.
Already the most powerful 740 in the uk I'd guess.
I've given up trying to get it embedded.

My mate bought another mate of mines 306 (sigh) I brokered the deal for no reward apart from the fact I got to spend the day during the holidays driving my mate to collect the car. Now this is a 1996 TD 3 door version and my mate the buyer just wanted a car to get him to work and back cheaply and the 306 was up for sale so I mentioned it, 10 months MOT, 5 months tax, a bit shabby but with 3 recent tyres good record of reliability with my mate the seller and running ok. £450. at 10.30AM my knocking on the door awoke my mate the buyer and after several coffees and some toast we were off to collect the beast. "There are a few minor things" my mate the seller said as we opened the drivers door to inspect the crumbling interior" "The tracking is out and the handbrake is not working very well, and the drivers side window is on the blink along with the heater controls" My mate the buyer looked dubious, he has no time to fiddle with car windows, I reassured him that I would be able to help with these minor interior problems as all cars need bits and pieces sorting from time to time. We both knew that any 306 was prone to poor creaking plastics and electrical glitches. My mate the seller was moving abroad that day so I felt obliged to smooth over the deal by offering my assistance to my mate the buyer in rectifying these issues. On the way back from the sellers house we stopped in at a scrapyard and pulled a drivers door wiring loom and window switches from a 306 also getting a peep at the bizarre cable arrangement that is found behind the door card. Well call me a fool if you wish but I have never had to work on a French car before, I invited him over to bring his car and we could spend the day iron out the problems. I tested the window motor by jumping it straight to a battery, it was ok, I pulled out the old hacked up door loom and put it the replacement door loom. I cleaned up the contacts on the multi-plugs in the door jam and plugged it in and tested it, all that happened was smoke escaped from the wires. I rechecked the circuit, getting 12v to the switches but nothing to the motor, checked the loom, all ok but no dice with the window. In short, the whole day wasted and no working window. Having done some research on google I find that all manner of problems occur on the 306 due to poor wiring loom layout/design. so many that no two cars seem to be the same (apart from they all have non working drivers windows) Am I missing something, can somone point me in the right direction or give me a hint about this as its getting to the point of considering a manual window conversion (there is a manual window 5 door in the scrappy) don't even get me started on the heater rheostat. Sorry, gone on a bit of a rant there. Ps, here is a picture of a car.

Great thread,
A Friend of mine used to race a 1600 sss during the early 70s in the Zambian rally, it sounded pretty hardcore from what he described.

don't worry about getting something a little underpowered or slower than a normal car, you don't want to be rushing in the snow anyway.

like he says,
The m45 came fitted on BMW minis and gets chucked for an upgrade (or used to a year or two back) cheap and good for 2 litre.
But I would say to go for bigger if you can, you can underdrive it and fore-go an intercooler.
