I am not selling here.
I just hoped I could get a few suggestions of its value as I know nothing about minis.
Its a 1969 Mk2 998cc cooper, been dismantled ages ago and boxed up, shell is stripped and needs full restoration. Its all original (no uprated parts) its all there apart from the grill. its been stored in a garage for 20+ years.
Got the V5 and new old plates.
Can anybody help?

shell, v5 and boxes of bits = circa £6-700 depending on state of shell. if the shell is really fooked then about £500

My Father paid about £1500 for his MK1 cooper around 1992/3. Complete but disassembled and shell needing work.

I suggest that you look to a thread in Website Qs forum regarding valuations. It's whatever someone thinks it's worth. But FWIW with a 99p No Reserve listing on ebay you should more than easily see £500 without too much difficulty .

The variations in replies above are why these threads never work. you can get a rough price based on the values of logbooks/plates (highly illegal), ebay prices and classic car mag value listings.

i've always thought it was illegal. alot of people are highly against this and i know on a certain forum they rally up and report it(thats when it crops up on ebay)
always thought they were illegal after seeing/hearing about this :S

oh yes they always report it, but it's not illegal. unethical yes, but not illegal.
Using a v5c/vin plate and number plates on another car is illegal, but buying/selling/possesion is not.

Wiki reckons there were 16,000 998 MkII Cooper's sold; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini#Mark_II_Mini:_1967.E2.80.931970So if its a case of buff the shell and the reinstall the parts to get an original it could be worth silly money to the right person when built and hence I think 'scrap value' and a couple of hundred quid is a bit below reality... although having said that... forum.minicooper.org/showthread.php?t=15581depending on the condition of the boxed parts and how they have been stored I think about £600-700, cos you never really know how much time money and effort you're going to have to put back into it to get it on the road... [edit] (same as ClubbyMatt said earlier actually - oops!!) [/edit]

to give you a guide, 2 years ago I sold a very rotten, 90% complete mk2 998 super deluxe for £300. I reckon if it is original and complete and things like the shell is savable, the wet suspension is in good order, the interior is in good shape, the original engine isn't rusted solid then I would expect it to be around or just over £1k

My father-in-law sold a gennie '68 Mk2 998 Cooper that had been in his garage for almost 20 years and needed a fairly major mechanical restoration (but had a solid shell) for £1100 12 months ago.
It's just a matter of finding someone who wants one, like everything.
