Just looking for a new van as have to sell ours as is a non-compliant 1996 Vauxhall Midi (Turbo Diesel Power!)
Just spoke to a chap who is selling his 2001 model tranny van on everyone's premier choice of auction website - He says the reason for sale is it's non-compliant (but would have been compliant if it was 5 months newer) - However when I tap its reg into the LEZ website it comes up as compliant!!?
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on? I've alerted him to this JIC he didn't realise and is selling a perfectly good van for no reason, but I'm assuming he'd have got some letters from Boris or something to convince him the van doesn't comply???
BTW if anyone is after a solid but heavily cosmetically challenged MOT'd transit sized van then let me know! Maybe someone might want the engine and gearbox for their Midi camper ??

hmmm I would have thought the letters would have been sent out on the same info as the website. also this:
I have been running all sorts of vehicles through the checker and found many anomalies, mostly with Mitsubishi L200's where they were registered as passenger vehicles to get through an old vat loophole a few years back. Many weren't but you find a few that are not subject to LEZ ;D

Oh and yes I don't have a life I spend my hours typing in reg numbers off ebay to find compliance anomalies.
It's ok.
I'm fine with that. ;D lol

I'm fine with that. ;D lol I do this, but with registrations of cars in old photos to see if any are still alive (via the DVLA tax checker). Always nice when you find that a Morris Minor or other 'run of the mill' car that was only a couple of years old when the picture was taken is still running around somewhere

the fella selling this is possible getting confused with the new requirements in the congestion charging zone, as of jan this year if you go into the congestion charge areas in a van over 9 years old the charge is £250 a day so this maybe why he is selling it. i belive you can still go into the lez but will want to stay away from the congestion zone. if you need to go into the congestion zone probally best to get a van thats no older than 7 years old or you will have to change it next year again.

All mk6 transit comply. My 2000 w reg wasn't compliant till 2 days ago when I sent off my v5 and a letter to fords to get a letter to prove it was compliant.
Ford never regerstered to say it was compliant. Ldv did.

I spent ages looking at this for my firm - 1999 smiley face, non compliant, 2001 T350 pick up - compliant. 1994 VW carravelle (mine) compliant. Only the Velle recieve a letter from Boris but I rang TFL just to check.

I own a 2000 mk6 transit swb but it was coming up as non compliant, called TFL and they said i have to send some info to them with some pictures of the vin plate, the problem with my van is that the DVLA have no record of the weight of the van so they need that and then it will be compliant ;D as i understand it ALL Mk6 Diesel Transits are fitted with Euro3 spec engines so all are compliant ;D Smiley Diesel Transits are a no go unless you have a petrol one and deep pockets Mk6's drive much nicer than smileys imo and i have driven both

I dunno, the mk5 was an awesome handling van, mk6 doesnt do lift off oversteer into roundabouts and feels a lot more wobbly, though that's more a trait of trying not to slow down and keeping the old banana screaming away ;D

There's some sort of loophole regarding smiley faced transits as you can get the "transit millennium" on a 2000 plate and also the smiley face ran til 2001,last rear axle produced 11/7/2001,I know cos my shift built the housing!!!
This resulted in lots of disgruntled "millenium" transit owners writing to boris stating that their 2.0 td engine is the sane one used in later, compliant transits.
This then resulted in a lot of smiley faced trannys (2000 on) suddenly getting accepted as compliant, there's a thread over on passionford about it.
My personal oddity is that I have a Nissan vanette on a 51 plate that's non compliant, unless I fit an exhaust mod to it?no idea what that is or how to do it.shame as the van is mint.
How do you stand if you change to petrol as I believe they are not part of the LEZ?

Are small vans compliant I.e say a caddy van on a 98 plate, or escort van of the same vintage?

Are small vans compliant I.e say a caddy van on a 98 plate, or escort van of the same vintage? Yep, for the time being at least. All pez vans can to through town too, my mk5 tranny was up west one the night before last rescuing broken courier bikes (and taking us all to the pub). This thread needs pics
