WOW! I am also a Rob M who owns a Dodge truck!!!! This is my 2002 Dakota. Mine is not supposed to be a project, more a rolling, tinkering enjoying toy. Good luck with the build.

I'm itching to buy a period property, SWMBO is not so convinced. Good luck with it all. Following with interest.

As I pulled off the drive in the truck the other day, I heard a squealing metallic sound coming from the front. As it was 5 am, I gingerly drove it to work and then nursed it home again at the end of the day. On my next day off, I jacked it up and removed the front wheel. It seems the brake pad retaining spring had jumped out and was rubbing on the disc. I reseated it and took it for a test drive and the noise has gone! I was worried it was going to need a wheel bearing. In other sad news, Land Rover Owner magazine has announced it's ending. I had been waiting for them to release the dates for this years annual LRO show at Peterborough as it was moving venue due to the East of England show ground being sold to developers. LRO statementIt seems it's no longer financially viable to keep running the magazine.

I never even realised it was tucked away in your garage! I assumed you no longer had it?

I've just Discovered Paul Bacons Kustom Works. Hot rod stuff. Mostly based on old London taxis. He builds some crazy looking cars.

No low range without the transfer box.

If it's staying in a Landy then it easy. Syncro Gearboxes make a selectable 2wd/4wd conversion that fits in the transfer box LINK HERE. Does require a strip down of the transfer box but they are quite straight forward. Plenty of Youtube guides.

The output shaft from the gearbox is splined and looks like this. You would need an adaptor or to have a shaft made. I'm not sure if the gear ratios would work either. The LT230 transfer case drops the output speed and increases torque.

I'm a fairly organised person. I have a typical garage small pieces organiser full of drawers containing some useful parts and some not so useful, it's the orange thing in this picture. It currently holds all my electrical connectors, special nuts and bolts, welding tips and shrouds etc... It's stuck in the corner under a cupboard on the workbench and I felt I needed better access to it. My workbench is quite large and heavy. It was given to my by one of my Mum's neighbours about 20 years ago. There's plenty of space under the worktop for a drawer so I ordered some 600mm runners and cleared out underneath. And using my finest cabinetry skills I knocked this together from some left over timber, OSB board for the base and a handle leftover from the bathroom refit. I kept all the bits and bobs in the drawers from the organiser unit but had a good clearout as I transferred it over. There was plenty of room for lot's of other stuff too. It's now much easier to find parts. I can slide the drawer fully out 600mm rather than dig through a small plastic drawer with my finger. I have been slowly plodding along with the Defender rewire. The main supply from the battery to the starter and alternator is done. The power to and from the key switch and i've started on the lighting circuits and also the ECU supply. I've re-positioned the ECU to allow for the demister ducting and added a switch to the tail gate to warn if it's open. As you can see I labelled everything with blue masking tape. Now waiting on an order of connectors and an electronic flasher unit from Car Builder Solutions.

I think I would have preferred an auto gearbox. I'm a big fan of manuals, my daily and project are both manual but in the truck it would just make sense. I have my heart set on a C10 one day. V8, bench seat, auto and rusty.

Well done Grizz and co. Great milestone to have achieved. Many projects (some of my own included) end up on axle stands or tucked away in garages buried under curse word, great to have followed one from the beginning and enjoyed the journey to see it come to fruition. All the hard work, cold weather and the odd lunch hour tinkering has paid off. Fingers crossed for some warmer weather soon so it really can be enjoyed fully. Thanks for sharing.

I've somehow only just discovered this thread. Maybe the word "Kia" put me off? Read through the whole thing. Loving the out of the box approach to a classic hot rod. Keep chipping away.

The bed cover does make it look very smart and it hides the huge LPG tank. I found out, after my last 12 hour shift at work, that the blowers do not blow on the windscreen. Took ages for the screen to clear enough so I could trundle along peering through the mist. More to come......
