I have seen that chevy for sale when I did the Iceni Brass Monkey Run back in December, looked a solid enough truck That good news! I might message the guy later. Do you do Facebook? There is a group on there Unusual Cars for sale You can actually post a wanted ad and be overwhelmed with responses. Nigel, the owner also has price band days, as well as Truck days. You could just get exactly what you want there. Good luck. I do have a Facebook, I'll check out unusual cars. I went to sign up to Rod's n sods only to discover I had created an account in 2016 and had even replied to some posts!!!!

So with the sale of the Caddy back in the summer and some stashing away of bonus's/bonuses/bunusai, i've been on the lookout for a motorhome. After months of searching i've realised that I can't afford the type I want and I don't want anything in my price range (mostly old Talbots) plus SWMBO has expressed that for the price of a motorhome, we can buy MANY nights away in an air BnB that have heating and toilets and hot tubs!!!!! So consequently I have around £9k burning a hole in my pocket. I don't really want another project as I want to get the Landy done so it really needs to be roadworthy. I've looked at 2 door modernish (mid life crisis) sports cars, I considered upgrading the Disco of dailyness with a newer one but even they have almost as many miles on and I looked roadworthy classics. I suggested that perhaps we could afford a Yank Tank truck. After a little research it seems we can afford to, this was met with a surprising amount of enthusiasm. A few of what I have been considering; I think I prefer the Chevy.

I've had injector harness leak oil into ECU, green fuel pipe chaff on rear chassis, rear chassis welded, rear air bags leaked, front sunroof leaked, gearbox currently leaking, both front inner wheel arches welded, the three amigoes. Not had any ACE faults though (yet!).

amazingly the FPR hasn't leaked on my car yet. Maybe it was changed prior to my ownership?

With the errant injectors not forcibly removed, I got on with stripping the head to it's component parts and cleaning them all in my small ultrasonic cleaner before laying it all out in order. This is the mess that EGR makes in diesel engines. Underneath all that mess was another surprise. Then I dropped the cylinder head off for skimming. While waiting for that I gave the Disco of dailyness some love. Firstly a new exhaust silencer. My shift at work has changed meaning I now leave for work at 5 am. Not wishing to curse word off my neighbours with the noise of my 5 cylinders of fury, I elected to replace the straight through pipe. Secondly the engine has been sometimes reluctant to start, when the key is turned to the start position all that was happening was a "click". I ignored it for a while and it slowly got worse so I waited for the coldest, wettest day of the year before I decided to do something about it. At this point you would be expecting me to throw in a new starter motor but because i'm a tight I bought a much cheaper rebuild kit. You can see where the contacts have been arcing causing the non start problem. It was really quite straight forward to do and saved me about £100 and it fixed the fault!

That's great luck and a fantastic bargain on the bed cover. Not wishing to drag you away from new projects (new projects are great BTW), but has the "project that must not be named" in the garage fallen out of favour or is it just waiting time/enthusiasm/parts (delete as appropriate).

I seem to have gone the opposite way to your 110. I've gone from a 110 hi cap 2 door and converted to a 4 door double cab!

I originally posted here as it was more about the progression of the garage but it seems to have morphed into the Defender build. Perhaps I will move it. I have been plodding along in between life, weather and work all getting in the way. Not many pictures to show the prohress but it is moving along. I swapped the glass fuse boxes for more modern blade fuse's and also with extra capacity so the new engine power supply could all be in one place, and started fitting the wiring harness back in whilst trying to make it tidier. I'm trying to make the ECU, fuses and relays all fit behind the dash to keep the engine bay tidier. I have got the injectors out!!!! I resorted to forcibly breaking off the rocker cover to access the head bolts so the cylinder head could come off. Three of the remaining four injectors came out with liberal use of an air hammer. No. 6 injector was still persisting on remaining where it was. After several hours (no really), I used the pointy chisel from the air hammer clamped tightly in my biggest vice grips, held up by a piece of timber which was ratchet strapped to the head. I employed my largest 4lb persuader and brought it around to my way of the thinking. I now need to strip the valves from the head so I can get it skimmed before commencing the rebuild. No in progress pictures unfortunately. In other news the Discovery of dailyness reached an important milestone.

Fantastic story telling Dez. I'm enjoying this thread. There is an access road to the garages at the rear of our terrace of houses and one of the neighbours in the road behind ours also has access. She has lived in the house for over 50 years and is over 100 years old. Her son knocked on our door one day, quite a few months ago, to tell us that the end was near and he would be needing access and could we not park there. She still seems to be soldiering on but the son seems very keen to start claiming his inheritance from under his still alive mother. It's very strange how the prospect of a little wealth can change humans into greedy pigs. It certainly can show peoples true colours at times.

I'm glad the hoses came in use to you. If you hadn't had them they were going in the bin. I hate blue hoses. Shorten the wastegate actuator arm for more boooooost!

Yay. Landy content added! Those gabion cages do look very good. I'm very Jealous of your Landy collection. I have coveted a forward control for years.

Glen, are you aware of these things? Not sure how much, if any, difference they make. It can't make it any worse though. I assume a man of your knowledge has done the basic things too like replacing filters? You need to keep an eye on exhaust gas temperatures if you are messing too much with boost and air/fuel mixture. I've seen EGT sensors installed in the EGR blanking plate.

Those buildings are a fantastic size. A covered storage area between the two is a must. Keep the updates coming. Following with interest.

Nope. I still have that issue to tackle. Now the engine is mounted and I have the weight of the Landy under it, i'll give it another go.
