Landrover Box to RWD??slater

Its going in an LDV not a Landrover. I did briefly consider a 4x4 conversion but the project is already complicated enough!
Luckily ive found someone with the correct LDV box now so hopefully the question is a bit moot. We will see how a 200tdi gets on pulling 5+tons up a hill

thanks, thats the kind of clarity I need!
Do you know if theres any chance of swapping the 1st motion shaft (and bell housing) of the LDV box over with the defender equivalents? Seems they both use a 21 tooth gear but not sure of the exact ration on the LDV box without stripping down the one i have and counting teeth.
Surely there must be a simple way of getting a 200tdi/300tdi in a RWD only configuration?
At this rate I'm just going to have to drop a Merc engine in it!

Does that part not just fit where the output flange would normally go?
It looks like I will have to buy a load of bits and see for myself!

There's a few threads to this effect out there but none seem to have a conclusive answer.
Basically if I have a Landrover LT77 or R380 box can I take the transfer case off and bolt up the RWD tail shaft casing off a SD1 or LDV??
Will the tail shaft be the right length etc?
If so can I do it with an R380 or will it only work with a LT77?

Don't waste money on 'products' they are all just phosphoric acid in various forms. Go straight to the active ingredient.

They do make dedicated lathes for working on wheels. Big money tho. In reality you're not going to do it at home without a bespoke machine.
(The gap isn't deep (long) enough to get wheels in usually btw)

Tile it.
Failing that cheapest floorpaint you can find and put up with having to do it regularly.
No floor paint will be any better than cheap single part stuff. Been there done that with all kinds of fancy epoxy and primers and all that. None of it is any better than cheap stuff.
Proper industrial resin floor as used in factories etc is good but not really diyable I don't think.

Bought this last August to fill in a gap in my fleet. Used it for a few months until I had water pump trouble (impeller fell off! 🤷♂️). Been off the road since October time but I have fixed the waterpump issue and just put 12 months test on it. All seems good starting it every few days, running it round the yard and down to the MOT station and back. Good bits These use the excellent om662 merc engine with bosch inline fuel pump which makes them perfect for running on veggie oil which myself and the pervious owner have been doing. Would probably benefit from a fuel heat exchanger being fitted for quicker warm up times but otherwise it runs 100% veg all year round. Body and chassis both free from any structural rust. Has a couple of small patches on the chassis for MOT but otherwise it's never been touched. Would deffo benefit from a good clean up and some kind of rust treatment under there tho. No real cosmetic body damage and paint is so so for a 1999 truck. All important electrics, central locking, windows, immobilizer, heater etc work. Interior ok, bit grubby in places. Even the A/C works. 4 decent tyres with load of life left in them, battery solid and keeps charge fine for weeks. Just had 4x brand new disc's and pads + general service. Not so good bits4x4 inoperative. The hub locks work but the vacuum connection to them has perished. Probably a simple enough fix. Pug ugly! Clutch switch somtimes a bit dicky Had a prang in the front at some point which has bent inner steel bumper and damaged electric fan. (Viscous fan does just fine on its own) Rear inner bumper steel section a but crusty! Power steering pump noisey and response a bit slow. Think it might benefit from a new pump at some point. Have both remote keys but battery's dead so using the dongle at the moment. Fuel gauge indicates empty when there 1/2 tank left! Looking for £1500ono collected from Birmingham B10. Viewing welcome.

You won't have any issue as long as the light is removed too. They would never know it was there.

The plastic i use for screen protectors is sold to go around birthday cakes of all things. Was the cheapest source. Comes on a nice roll and I just duct tape it onto the glass. Seems to last as well as anything. Got a link please ? Search 'cake collar' on ebay. Lots of sellers and lots of sizes depending on size of your window.

K seal works a treat. I wouldn't call it a permanent repair but I've seen it block a 1/4 hole in a core plug and doesn't block up heater matrixes or anything like that. Definitely does what's in intended to do!
Last car I used it in (with a holed rad) lasted over a year with no issues. Every now and again the rad would spring a leak again (probably as the corrosion continued) but the residual sealer in the system just comes along and blocks the hole again. Deffo one of those things you would want in the emergence toolkit on a long trip.

Yeh I think the key to what you're trying to do is to fold a lip around the edge (even if it's only 5mm) and put some swages in between the 4 fans.

Well technically the stiffest will be stainless. Not that it makes much difference.
The real key to having it stiff is to put some flanges or swages in it.
I'd be tempted to go stainless for corrosion resistance. Kind of depends if you can work it tho. It's far harder to cut and drill etc. Alu obviously lighter so you can get away with much thicker sheet.
Depends what your priorities are.

I really don't think you would have much trouble bending that over your leg or somthing! It doesnt look like it has much compound curve. Not to the point where you would notice it in the patchwork quilt of what's already there anyway.

MOT for MOT Exempt vehicles? slater
@slater
Club Retro Rides Member 78
|
|
Jesus, read my post again, it clearly answers that! Why would it need a retest if doesn't need an MOT? How can people not get it? Theres no argument to be had. If you took your MOT exempt car for an MOT (why the curse word you would do that i don't know!) and it failed on a dangerous fail then all you have to do is fix the fail before you drive it again. The car didn't need an MOT in the first place and it still doesn't afterwards. It needs to have the dangerous problem fixed tho clearly.
A word of advice. Don't take MOT exempt cars for an MOT to get them checked over. I understand less competent people may want a second set of eyes over a car but the MOT isn't what you want. Just take it to a decent garage and get them to check it over properly, no MOT limitations, no bureaucracy, just normal car maintenance. An MOT pass is so easily faked a car having a tick in the bureaucratic box is worthless to anyone else so why pay for it?!
Spec-lifts etc are the same deal, its policed by roadside checks, any vehicle can be subjected to roadside check at any time.
