Ben - awesome post, brought back a lot of memories. I can't wait to get back and get cracking on the Datsun! This implies you will be moving back to Irelandland at some point? Be good to see you back over here. Your horrendous glorious taste in music and crude Irishness has been missed ;D

It won't always make a noise when it's slipping. I don't know if it's a V or or ribbed belt on a B3, but the V belt on my mk1 Fiesta is awful for slipping and keeping the correct tension if it's a bit old..

Have you checked the tension of the alternator belt as a starting point?

It's a shame you need to post that at all Anything that won't go in black bags will be thrown back in the Passat for Somerset County Council's finest to collect on the next bin day EDIT: what an eejit. If it doesn't go in a bin bag, it can go directly in the skip *facepalm*

Paypal almost always rule in the buyers favor One thing I don't understand, are the wheels metric or the tyres metric? Surely if the tyres are metric you could just change the tyres to something similar when they wear out? The wheels are metric. Instead of a 15" diameter, it's an obscure number of milimetres with no direct swap to an imperial size. I believe they were marketed by Michelin (?) under the name TRX

It isn't the rust I'd be worried about inhaling, Will. Iron is needed as part of a balanced diet afterall ;D I'd be far more worried about the disturbed spores from the mould and stuff growing in there.
Still, can't be that bad. You're still here so it can only have made you stronger ;D

Just think how much better the doors on the Holden will look to you when you see the Fairlane from Area 51 if its there! I wasn't kidding about the HQ's 22mpg economy on a run, 55mph (ish) Midnight Oil surf hits on the stereo and just chill all the way down..... Failling that spill the beans on what you have coming over for the wagon from Aus+ tell me you bought that ute from ebay.... 52 The Fairlane won't be there this year. It hasn't been touched in a couple months and is still very, very crispy

I think we met briefly at the gathering in '09. You're accent stumped me entirely and I probably appeared intolerably rude. Come along this year so you can swear at me for it. C'mon.. You've been offered a seat, there are tickets floating about at face value and you know it will be the best weekend of the year. What reason is there not to come?!

The tracking is out on the Passat and has suddenly (as in it's been happening for some time but I've only just noticed) started eating one edge of the OS front tyre.. The Fiesta is still a tatty mess and despite me lubing it up, the throttle cable still sticks sometimes. I think it's frayed somewhere in the sheath. It'll snap soon enough

If you get really stuck, you could always insure it 'properly' then cancel it so that you've only paid for X days cover plus an admin fee.. It may well be on a par in terms of cost though

JohnnySomerset asked this question when he was still posting on here. He wanted to paint his Cedric black in such a way that it looked like it used to be shiny and has aged with dignity over the course of 50 years.
He went about acheiving it by painting it himself using cellulose (possibly when it was cold), the theory being that he wasn't great at spraying, which put a few years on it immediately ;D

I spotted the 'I phoned SVA' bit as well. I feel for the guy because there's obviously a huge amount of work and he's plodding along ignorant to the fact that it WILL need a test, possibly because of some duff info from a saturday kid on the phones at VOSA.

That goes against absolutely everything that I have ever read in the rules, or seen clarified by The ACE..
Even if it was the case, he'd never make enough points to retain the original ID anyway. Don't be surprised if the V5c gets confiscated on this one...

Remember to speak to your insurance company as banded wheels may invalidate your insurance if not declared as they had a bad name in the 70,s (last centuary!) Anything could invalidate your insurance if not declared

My experiences of the 'Eezibleed' kit have been really good. Just remember that the stated 20+psi required is rubbish.. That's far too much pressure and blows the seal on the bottle. I seem to remember about 10-12psi working better

The problem is, you've asked a very rational question about an event that is very emotive to most of the people on here.. You knew what the answer would be But I'll throw my opinion in anyway If you've already got a weekend ticket, stop asking such silly questions and I'll give you a bottle of whatever homebrew I have when I get there. I'll be about the A52 lot and have flowery tattoos on my arms If you'd only be going for the sunday, then I'd be a bit more rational. If you don't go, absolutely make sure you put the money to one side to use for what you've said, otherwise you've gained nothing
