Hi folks, have been looking in to temporary insurance for the MR2 (for 3 days) so I can get it to the Gathering. After reading this, I was under the assumption that I'd be fine with Direct Line (who I've got a policy with on my daily), but after ringing them they'll only do this for courtesy cars etc, not for a second vehicle. Now panicking and flapping about for another insurer. Ughhh. Had a bit of a search on here, but the a52 Ka thread still left me stumped: Tried tempcover - won't get past the quote screen "One of your entered details is ineligible for our underwriters" E-Car won't insure me as I'm under-25. Best I can get is shortterminsurance.co.uk at about £80 w/£750excess, or insuredaily.co.uk at £72 w/£1500excess. Any recommendations? I'm sure some of you must just insure stuff for shows... Please help

If you get really stuck, you could always insure it 'properly' then cancel it so that you've only paid for X days cover plus an admin fee.. It may well be on a par in terms of cost though

As Ben said, take out a full policy, then cancel after the Gathering. Distance Selling Regulations allow a 14-day 'cooling-off' period for anything bought over the phone/net/mail order.
There will be a small admin charge for cancelling, SwiftCover for example charge £25, but that's better that the quotes for short-term insurance you've got so far.
If you want to get more quotes, try DayInsure/RAC Day Insurance [they are through the same provider].

Try www.dayinsure.com as they do insurance for 1 to 30 days,i've used them in the past to get a car back that i've just bought! Tim A cautionary tale for you.............. I went with a mate to pick up an AE86 from Bradford, I took out a policy with Dayinsure.com which I purchased online. I entered the reg which the application form accepted, paid my £20 and thought all was good. HOWEVER on the way home I was involved in a crash, a guy in a Corsa span on the motorway at Bridgewater junction M5. He crashed into me and a girl in a Polo, I thought it's okay I'm insured and it's not my fault! Turns out because the car was an import I wasn't insured at all. Without writing an essay I had a lot of ball ache over the whole thing.Personally if I was to take short term insurance again I'd do it through my current insurer.

Sierra - here we go again! He has an illness, it's not his fault.

Can you not add swap you daily's insurance over or add the mr2 for 3 days, most insurance companies will do this.

Had this policy a month and I'm already utterly fed up with them. Looking in to Ben and Dan's method now. edit: Can't use any of the temporary insurance ones I've looked at anyway, they don't cover any form of modification.

Depends how you go about it I've done it at least 3 or 4 times using tempcover, just have to be friendly distract them with conversation and fold the piece of paper in the correct place ;D

one thing to note is cancelling a policy after 3 days using the distance selling laws just to get a car home/to a show WILL effect future quotes you get and companies willingness to insure you in the future....... it is logged that youve done it on their system and the underwriters too, they will know if youve done it in the past-especially if youve done it more than once. ask me how i know!!!!
once theyve got your dollar, they do NOT like giving it back!!
and, yeah, its not legal to insure a car using a temp cert. 99.5% of post offices will flat refuse, you may just get lucky and find one that will like above though.
