When I was looking into this I ended up just searching 'concentric slave' on ebay and trawling for specs of whatever I found *had a quick look and there is a fair amount on there below £50 and some below £30...

I'm a big fan of the Halfords pro stuff but I do also use a separate, coarser 3/8" ratchet for when I'm working in a hamfisted manner. It may or may not be stronger, but it feels stronger. That said, I shouldn't need to do that anyway. I should go up to 1/2" instead but sometimes you can't fit in the gap.. It's also all 12 sided rather than 6, which can be an annoyance. When I put it like that ^^ I probably wouldn't buy it again. I'd choose a bit more carefully or piece my set together with bits I like from various manufacturers. Then again, I've bought it now and with it's lifetime guarantee that doesn't requirea proof of purchase to be redeemed in any of its hundreds of shops that are all open on Sunday afternoons, I've probably got a good deal

5mm holes wouldn't be hard to weld up. If you can weld, drill some holes in some scrap and get practicing ;D
Since it'll need paint after anyway, it may be easier to source a new, undrilled one though.

It's always worth noting where the local autoglass (other automotive glaziers are available..) vans park up at night. It's the sort of job that would be done for a few quid cash. Especially as there's no risk with the old screen breaking.
That said, two people, some cheese wire and a knife will have it out if you want to have a bash yourself

It really is regular servicing that makes the difference. Once a car gets into the 'Bangernomics' point of life where people consider servicing an optional and largely pointless expense, the life expectency drops considerably! If it's serviced throughout then generally speaking, there's no reason why (most) engines won't go on and on and on...
Of the current cars, our 1.9td (AAZ) Passat is on about 180,000 miles and going strong. Our mk1 Fiesta is on an unknown mileage (the clocks read 90k I think, but I reckon the clocks have been changed and they only read to 99999 anyway...) and still going well.

Those Fed spec lights are, in my opinion, 'orrible. But they absolutely make that car. Absolutely stunning. I'm with Robin; my tattoos are too flowery to make get away with owning something like that.

Yeah, you just need - Seller address and name. the date. how much was paid. what for (ie make model reg) and sign. I like both buyer and seller to sign. You can add "sold as seen" and all that but it actually means nothing in law any more. Job done I have, at times when I've been mega organised, written the receipt out onto or with a copy of the advert/ebay auction for absolute clarity about what the buyer has purchased. I have to admit that amongst this community, I'm far more lax than I should be and have not bothered writing or asking for receipts, not bothered counting the cash etc. I should probably be more careful as being part of the community does not automatically make someone good to buy or sell cars with* *I've been fortunate enough to have never been stung so far though

Going to have a good phone around tomorrow and see who can get it done and for what price. I'm automatically staying clear of Halfrauds, Kwik-Fit etc as I can't be arsed with sell-up and tut-tutting at how low it is etc. Most tyre shops don't give a monkeys how low it is as long as they can get it on the ramps. Carrying convenient blocks of wood with you will please them if it doesn't look like it will clear. For what its worth, my local Kwik Fit is actually pretty good, but it's the same with any national chain; some will be far better than others.

Anyone know the offset of the original wheels on a '69 Taunus, or a simple way of calculating it as I have a set in the shed.......? Cheers Measure the width of the wheel from outside edge to outside edge. Divide that number by two. Then measure the mounting face to the back edge. The difference between the two numbers is the offset

volksangyl... the motors can only go so fast though... I'm no expert on electric cars, but I think what VA is getting at is that a motor per wheel is more effecient, and therefore capable of being quicker than if one bigger motor were used I may have missed the point entirely

I've just looked out of curiosity. Approximately a third of all your posts are 'bumps'. Impressive.
Could you catalogue what you are actually selling, and the condition the items are in? I reckon you'll have a bit more luck.

If it were me, I'd be looking at mounting it suspended under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Where you have a couple rocker switches in the above pic. It's not like any driver ever wants the passenger to touch the radio anyway ;D

1) If it's the blue Ethylene Glycol stuff (which it almost certainly will be in a car of that age) then all the bottles I've ever bought have said '2 years protection' or words to that effect.
2) If it still works, then I probably wouldn't bother. It's an ideal opportunity to do it for piece of mind though. And it only costs a few quid so you may as well if you don't know how old the old one is.
EDIT: test the new thermostat before you fit it.. I've had a few duff ones, especially from Halfords. It may need dropping into a pan of boiling water rather than just kettle boiled water poured over it though, as the kettle water's temp will drop fairly quickly to the 'start-to-open' temp, meaning you wrongly think you have a duff...
HTH
