I became the owner of a 1991 Mk2 Golf GTI today ;D First on the agenda is to get the tracking sorted as it's pulling to the right a LOT. It's lowered on FK coilovers and I'm a bit weary of taking it to Halfrauds/Kwik-Fit etc as I just want it straight as possible- no sell-up, no bullpoop, just the tracking sorting. I'm in the Black Country area (between Brum and Wolverhampton) can anyone recommend any good places?
Cheers!

Most garages will sort tracking for about £15. It's the camber adjustment that costs and you need someone a bit more specialist.

There's a butt load of camber adjustment on those things, too.

Going to have a good phone around tomorrow and see who can get it done and for what price. I'm automatically staying clear of Halfrauds, Kwik-Fit etc as I can't be arsed with sell-up and tut-tutting at how low it is etc.

Is Warwickshire too far to travel? I know of a place that could sort your camber for you in Rugby and track your car quite well .

It is a bit far mate, cheers. I need somewhere local, really. Midland VW has been recommended to me by my Nephew, going to phone them later.

Carrying convenient blocks of wood with you will please them if it doesn't look like it will clear. For what its worth, my local Kwik Fit is actually pretty good, but it's the same with any national chain; some will be far better than others.

I've used kwick-fit in Telford a few times for tracking and they seem reasonably competent / honest. Easy to get to from wolves/brum (j4 M54) about £15 or £20 last time I used them.

They won't do camber for £20. I wouldn't - not worth getting out of bed for that kind of money (not that my pay is much better 'course)

I work for halfords and we don't do tut tutting or upsell poop poop. You only get advised on work that needs doing, and no onw will hold you to ransom if you don't have it done. which is lucky for the amount of shagged cossie's the boss keeps bloody bringing in. Don't want to sound harsh but i don't like being tarred with "that brush" thank you, we aren't all pricks. You want to get it somewhere specialist for the camber may as well have the tracking done at the same time so you know its spot on, unfortunately stoke will be a bit of a trek but our local mazda dealer can do it for £80

Camber is a piece of curse word to do yourself with a bit of flat ground and a spirit level. Do this before you do the tracking, a slight adjustment to the camber makes quite a big difference to the tracking

There's a butt load of camber adjustment on those things, too. Really? The mk2's I've seen have had about 5mm of movement in the slotted lower ball joint to wishbone bolts giving about 0.5 deg of movement. Mk1's and Sciroccos have an eccentric bolt from the strut to hub which gives up to about 5 deg if you want! Very easy to get them wrong and kill a set of tyres rather quick.

Loosen the bolts that attach the strut to the hub and you end up with about 10 degrees of adjustment!

Ah right, fair play, the holes don't give any indication that there's meant to be adjustment there like the mk1's do with the rather obvious eccentric bolt.
