My 1969 Ford Taunus needs new wheels....i'd like to 'band' the originals and have them refurbished but my insurer won't entertain it! Problem is they are a 5x112 pcd, originally 14" but i don't know the offset?! The options in new wheels that'll actually suit the car are almost non-existent, especially in a 14 or 15". Then i thought about pcd adaptors but i'm not sure how successful these are or how safe etc. But the other problem is that, because the original pcd is shared largely with VAG models, these adaptors only tend to convert to other VAG patterns like 5x112 to 5x110 etc. And those styles don't suit a retro Ford! I'm stuck here and not sure what to do at all so just wondered what peoples advice would be? Cheers

You might just about manage 5x114.3 with wobble bolts. American Mopar and some Ford as well as loads of big Japanese cars use that pattern so plenty of wheels about.

If wobble nuts can get me to 5x114.3 I'd be in heaven and a set of staggered retro US rims would be ordered! I guess best thing to do would be to get a set, source a steely in that fitment an test fit to make sure it's good?! Thank you For the advice, that hadn't crossed my mine thus far.... Cheers

Remember that to use wobble bolts you need spigots, I'm not sure about your Taunus, but a lot of older cars/vans didn't have a spigot to center the wheel.

Never having used them before, that's the sort of thing I hadn't considered so I'll have to look into it and see if that's yet another bump in this surprisingly complicated road! Thank's

maybe worth ringing north hants tyres, see if they can do any of these special order in 5x112? www.northhantstyres.com/main%20wheel%20pages/Misc/Smoothie.htmwith them being brand new aftermarket rims, your insurer might be keener, although I think I'd have just told them I was fitting replacement steel wheels myself

Almost on the road: b11 sunny breadvan, e36 tds, 325i skidcar,
nearly there: ford f250 tathauler, suzuki alto, u11 bluey
not for a while: ford pop, 32 rails,
not in this lifetime: ruby, '29 hillman

And the chrome smoothie is one of them!!! Yeah, that's an idea. Think i'll give them a bell to see if any are available in a 5x112. Insurer knows about current wheels so other aftermaket ones will be fine.....you're encouraged to be honest, and obviously i don't want to risk having a claim refused for any reason, but a flat 'NO' makes you question HOW honest to be sometimes!? Slight curve ball but, these will fit straight on pretty much, but i'm not sure........would far prefer some US style really, but i do like these in their own right too......!?

Anyone know the offset of the original wheels on a '69 Taunus, or a simple way of calculating it as I have a set in the shed.......?
Cheers

Cheers Measure the width of the wheel from outside edge to outside edge. Divide that number by two. Then measure the mounting face to the back edge. The difference between the two numbers is the offset

What's the general consensus on repairing steels....if I take my problem back to the bare bones- I've got 4 really nice chrome steels but some norbert has ground the holes on just the front two outwards by a few mm to presumably fit a 5x114 pattern. The rear's are untouched. Is it possible to repair that bodge? I'm looking at having to change all four otherwise and it's an expensive headache!
Cheers
