After starting the clean up ready to have bumpers fitted to the Jag i've come across some rot at the base of the windscreen.
I need some one to take the front screen out so i can repair it as i have no idea about removing bonded screens. The current screen has a crack in it so i'm not fussed about screen damage.
The cars 2 mins off the A50 at Foston.
Will this affect the replacement screen excess of my policy?

Can't help you with the removal, but a windscreen company might be able to for a small fee. If you don't make a claim for it on your insurance, there's no reason it'll affect your policy.

It's always worth noting where the local autoglass (other automotive glaziers are available..) vans park up at night. It's the sort of job that would be done for a few quid cash. Especially as there's no risk with the old screen breaking.
That said, two people, some cheese wire and a knife will have it out if you want to have a bash yourself

you can buy the removal tool for bonded in screens off ebay for a few quid, and DIY it. no 3rd party windscreen fitter (autoglass, etc.) who comes to replace it is gunna complain if the screen is already out for em, as theyve only got half as much to do then! edit- looks like itll cost less than a tenner delivered

If you get the proper cheesewire (square profile stuff) they aren't bad at all to get out, the hardest bit is getting the wire through to start with, but if the screen is already cracked you can be fairly aggressive with a screwdriver or knife.
If if does look like you're gonna crack it, stick some parcel tape over the area to contain any splinters

I've removed a bonded in screen with a crowbar before..... just' sayin Thats brought back some memories of when we used to build banger cars and removed the dash boards with the birmingham screw driver (sledge hammer). Those were the days! Theres a coach glazing company 2 villages down so might give them a bell. Cheers

What Jag is it ? rust at the bottom sounds like a series 3 jag but then again could be any jag really, if it has the chromes on the screen you can remove the bootlace rubber from the body side and then the corner chromes, with that out of the way you need to push the wire through the bond at the top corner with mole grips, you may need to use a stanley knife to help remove some of the bond at the corner then again at the bottom, you don't have to buy the wire handles just use two mole grips the hold the wire, then you can wire the screen out from the outside, make sure that when starting off you feed the wire under the chromes then you can wire it out in one with the chromes still on the glass, I take them out like this on my own to save the expensive chromes and then when it come back to fitting it ( as long as the screen is good ) all that needs to be done is bonding the screen to the car and fit a new boot lace to the body side, of course you might not have a series 3 and all the above is usless ? NOTE that when it comes to fitting find someone who knows what they are doing or all the time and money you have spent will be wasted and the end result will look awfull oh and if you have to weld around the screen make sure it ends up like factory or again it will look bad, hope that helps ? Cheers Rusty, it's an XJ40. and it has chrome so with all the advice i should be able to sort it. I don't think i'll be asking for chairchilds help!! ;-)
Luckily the grot is at the bottom and will be covered up by the scuttle panel.
To add to my woes i've removed the valance to be greeted by a bit more rust. Then i decided to remove the head lights because now i'm in for a penny i'm in for a pound so to speak, and guess what? The F***ing bolts just turning in the light so out comes me old mate lumpy when i find a decent pair of lights.
