Evening Hombres I have a little problem - my beloved White 220 Gti (above) is due back out next spring...its 32K and totally original bar two things - a twin pipe exhauxt and a stupid chrome face lift Rover grille! (The wheels on it are BRM's I know and too late for a K reg but wheels don't count and besides which I still have the original RSP's )I want it back to its K reg original splendour - i.e no cheapo corporate grille - however this will expose drill holes in the bonet and they will need filling / brazing / welding. Now this is where I defer to you Boys' greater knowledge and expertise - what is the best way to do a good if not great job of refilling the 8 or so 5mm holes that some berk has drilled into the bonnet to mount said Grille? I intend to strip and respray the bonnet to a high standard and don't want to be left with witnesses or distortion around the filled area...so if you guys have any good ideas then I am all ears !!!! cheers! P.s ignore the curse word pic below - it really is lovely and the interior smells absolutely factory still

5mm holes wouldn't be hard to weld up. If you can weld, drill some holes in some scrap and get practicing ;D
Since it'll need paint after anyway, it may be easier to source a new, undrilled one though.

Your right Dude I guess it wouldnt be too hard to weld up but I don't got no welding gear and bit worried about distorting the bonnet - I do have a spare bonnet but wanted it all original parts if possible...

I appreciate the sentiment, but I'd get a good coat of paint on the spare and keep the original as a spare... Seeing as how you'll have to paint the original anyway.* *This sentence contains a lot of originals, which is what you want, right ;D

Actually you may have a point there - I could take the spare back to metal or close on and do a nice job of it - I had it earmarked for a Blue coupe but that went so its spare without a particular use now...

I can understand the whole 'original' thing but a good replacement bonnet would (in my eyes) be better than a fixed 'original' one. If stripped and repainted to match, it came from the same place and is ending up in the same place and looks the same, that's original enough for me.
