Thanks for the tip on bound and rebound - seems logical when you think about it. no, it really doesn't! they still get compressed whichever way up they are.. however if they are designed to run that way up the oil valving will be in the bottom.

I thought it was fair and clear as it was, as there are no good examples of a non halogen light source working in a halogen type lens/reflector.
the additional wording stating they are ok if they pass the beam pattern is fair though, rare for that to happen truthfully I would imagine

most likely 390mm if its a bmw, that equates to 15.35"
so you would need enough meat in the rim to be able to take 0.175" off the seat and the rim (4.45mm)

when I built my 2.2 gti6 engine I had my local engine machinists do a skim, seat and valve cut all for £130

which engine is it? probably a variance in the tensioners used over the years as you've found!

1340 30 is a flat rubber gasket, you need two of these, its post 91 or 92 ish they changed, the o.d of the later thermostat is a few mm smaller

Peugeot tended to use either a flat rubber gasket either side of the thermostat or a single piece flat lip seal that wraps around the thermostat. managed to find the parts diagram for the tu engine pre 91. www.miamistu.co.uk/pug/GB/205F/1/13E12A.HTM

my e34 525 tds has a 2.65 but thats a diff not an axle, I think later vehicles don't tend to have as tall a ratio as the wheels got bigger.

I'm guessing that's fully dressed for the K20, being an all aluminium engine though with a complicated valvetrain with chains etc, as I can't see it being heavier than my 120 odd kilo iron block twin cam pug xu !

for a more o.e type repair, if the hard line section is good then you could take the assembly to a hose specialist and ask them to swage on a new ferrule.

find a local old boy in a tin shed that rebuilds alternators would be my next port of call if you don't feel you can fix it.
you should have at least battery voltage (12.5 or thereabouts for a healthy battery) when testing at the battery, so I think your testing method may be flawed, have another go!
your alternator is the same body fitment as the gti, so very easy to find a replacement, join up one of the many 205 groups on Facebook and you should be able to find something pretty quickly.
the slip ring is the part attached to the main shaft, two copper tracks joined to the main windings, they are glued in place.
