While going over my Boxster prior to MOT I was checking the hard brake lines and whilst they were all good I noticed that the ferrule on one of the power steering pipes had split, on further investigation (levering the split with a screwdriver!) it was apparent the hose was being held in place by just a couple of the crimps. the ferrule is/was aluminium and had suffered corrosion and thus split. My question is will decent correctly sized hose clips be ok on a PAS hose. I intend to fit two in the positions of the crimps the ferrule had i.e. one either side of the 'bead' of the hard pipe the hose attached to. This is the low pressure return hose.
Its where the hose that goes to the rack (2) joins the hard pipe back towards the PAS pump, diagram is for LHD but you get the idea.

As long as it is low pressure/return, a hose clamp should be fine. It may surprise you if you get a price from Porsche. If it is a common issue the parts aren't usually too ruinous

for a more o.e type repair, if the hard line section is good then you could take the assembly to a hose specialist and ask them to swage on a new ferrule.

I will do that at a later date welshpug as the hard line is perfect but it's a little involved being mid engined , undercovers off , roof in service position engine cover off to get to the pump and filler etc. I'm hoping to drive it a bit once i've got it MOT'd. Where i work we use a hydraulics place near Kidlington who will be able to sort me out when I can be @rsed to crawl back under the car, luckily the pipe has a joint low down so easy enough to remove but a bit of a pain to refill and bleed..
mk2cossie the pipe is apparently NLA from OPC
