Is there a photo album or thread for this beach party?! Some of those cars are looking particularly awesome! Sweet drifting as well, I would so love to have been on that trike! There wasn't a thread for this particular Beach Party, as the last official one in March was SO popular (200+ cars) that I felt that we were in severe danger of wearing out our welcome. Hence it was sort-of invite only and tacked onto an Area52 Play Weekend. Here then, thanks to various people on Facebook who actually took pictures, are some of the highlights from Sunday. Enjoy. Steve Lacey's V6 RWD T-Bird, Simon Cornish's Sylvia and Brat-Man's daily, a decked Polo wagon (his new ride's en route from the USA as I type, in fact it's due into Felixstowe Docks next Monday.....I know what it is, I've seen it, I've even seen a video of it in action.....but I'm sworn to secrecy). Yup. Sod's Law dictated that the first time we have an UNOFFICIAL Beach Party, the chuffin' burger van turns up. Slammed late Polo looked lovely. Proper Minis run 10"s. I did have a proper heart-in-mouth moment when a few cars ventured down to the water's edge for a photoshoot....I needn't have worried though. Counted them out, counted them all back again. Nice shot. Slammed Mini looked great. Beemer had recieved lows only the night before, in fact it was only finished at about 10am Sunday morning! Another KFW Ebay purchased drifty Lolvo wagon. Unfortunately by the end of the day the engine was a bit....toasted. I think everyone had a go in Chris's Landy over the course of the day. 3.9 V8 sounded glorious. EmDee's Multipla sitting on (in) the sand. 360s gettin' drifty with it. BiAs' Shuttle looks better every time I see it. Steve Hayball's Fugitive at rest. What it was all about. A chilled-out afternoon on the beach with a few mates, a few cars and a lot of craic. And here, just so you remember to mark it in your diaries.....

Is he set on doing competitive events in a Historic class? if he is, he'll need to be aware that there are a great many rules and regulations on what you can and can't use. basically period mods are fine, but modernised running gear is outlawed. www.hrcr.co.uk/www.easylarity.org.uk/

That is gorgeous. If anyone feels inspired to buy a black E-Class and do something similar, watch this space after mine's MOT'd on Saturday. ;D

Thanks for the kind words, all that leaping about doing sun-dances for the few days leading up to this last weekend were not entirely in vain..... Not so much of an official Beach Party, more a run-of-the-mill (if such a thing exists) Area52 Play Weekend with a trip to Brean thrown in on the Sunday. A few people from Rust Rash Flyers and Bath Retro & Dub Club joined in the fun, about 35 cars spent the day in the sunshine (though thanks to a stiff breeze it WAS a bit on the chilly side) quaffing burgers, bench-racing and generally shooting the shnizzle for a few hours. More than a few positives came out of the day, firstly I'd like to thank everyone who donated cashmonies in the small collection that we made for Burnham Area Rescue Boat, which is the voluntary organisation dedicated to ensuring that those who get into trouble on Burnham/Brean/Berrow's beaches are rescued. Thanks to your donations I was able to forward £81.70 to their coffers last night via PayPal. Brilliant. In addition to that I had a conversation with Scotty from RRF who has generously offered to not only provide rubbish bins for the next 'official' Beach Party (details to follow in due course, mark March 24th 2013 in your diaries) but also to take them all away again afterwards and dispose of the litter contained therein. This resolved the main problem that Burnham Town Council had with the last proper Beach Party held in March when about 220 cars showed up. They then had to pay four guys overtime to clean up the mess that was unfortunately left behind afterwards. This was the reason why I decided against having yet another massive event in October. In late August, after a few emails/phone conversations between myself and a few others, we decided to have a small low-key get-together just to prove that we could get through a day on the sands without upsetting anyone. Yes there was a little bit of minor hoonage but certainly no more than they get on the average Sunday, and nowhere near the levels experienced at the last couple of official shows. The fact that we shared the beach with a group of local horseriders who made time for a look at some of the cars bears that one out. No pics from me, as I managed to get completely destroyed at A52 on Saturday night and was in no fit state to be wandering around with a camera. I will take the liberty of including a couple of pics from Facebook though... Courtesy of Rob Gray of Bath Retro & Dub ClubCourtesy of Rich SkuseCourtesy of Steve LaceyThanks once again from me to everyone who showed up. Point well and truly made. To the wider world of Retro-Rides, the Beach Party WILL be back in 2013. BD

Another epic weeekend.....and I finally broke my duck by sleeping over and not being a daytripper! Great to see you guys as ever. Busy Time at work means I probably won't get to make another visit this side of Ch*****as but I'll try and get down for the usual Anti-Xmas shanenigans if they happen.

I'll just leave this here. Rover 114 lowered a smidge with 14" Montego Diesel rimmage, snapped by me at this year's Pride Of Longbridge show. Simple, but SO hard-looking IMHO.

remember seeing lots around when I was younger also had forgot about them part of our heritage Me too, back in the 1970's every Division One football ground had spaces around the pitch for them to park. Imagine that swarthy fibreglass bodywork taking a direct hit from a caser hit by Peter Lorimer* on the half-volley. ;D *Peter Lorimer-legendary Leeds United midfielder from 1962-1979, still regarded as having the hardest shot in football historyThey were built by AC Cars under the Thundersley Invacar brand-name, initially with a 147cc Villiers 2-stroke engine and chain drive. Later models (which can be identified by their Mini rear wheels) were powered by a 600cc Steyr-Puch 4-stroke and automatic gearbox which allegedly gave them a top speed of approaching 80mph. It became illegal to use one as a Invalid Carriage on the road in March 2003, however if they are reclassified as tricycles for tax purposes they remain road-legal...which explains why a few remain. Imagine one looking stock except for a pair of Cooper S reverse-rims on the back but rocking a turbo'd Hayabusa lump.

Post 1990 Citroens, and Peugeots for that matter, don't seem to rust at all. I don't think I've seen a frilly BX, ZX, XM etc etc. I had a 99 306 for a while that was clean as a whistle. Then I had a 2000 Focus estate that a bubbling tailgate and rear arches. BX's (and Xantias, come to that) seem to go around the strut tops and inner wings. BX's can suffer from bad tinworm around the A-pillars/doorhinges as well. I almost bought a really tidy N-plated ZX dizzler wagon early this year, until we managed to put a trolley-jack straight through the floor when taking the aftermarket alloys off. Peugeot 205's were galvanised from the factory from the waist downwards which is why so many survive in great shape. 309's were a bit less resistant to the dreaded Ferrous Oxide.....as for 306's I have seen a couple which have rotted spectacularly around the rear inner wings. On the whole though they do seem to fare much better than most. My old Xant was in much better bodily shape than the Merc E-Class I've got now, even if it's spectcacularly good for a 90's W124.

I have 'dart player' build too (just measured my chest, bang on 52"), certainly the other shirts in the range over the years (I've got 'em all, because I'm nothing if not completist) fit me absolutely fine.

Not just a Dyane....but a Dyane on an Ami Super chassis with a 1299cc flat-four out of a Citroen GSA under the bonnet. That means 65bhp instead of 31, in a car weighing a little over half a ton. www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C338988#

I like 306's, when the Benz has gone I'll be in the market for something like this to smoke around in daily while I save my pennies for another Tin Snail. Looking forward to seeing it a bit closer to the ground.

Affordable now and when introduced (THIRTY YEARS ago next year), hard as nails, don't rot, don't fall apart and 50mpg is the norm for diesels/easily attainable in an 1100 petrol, too. Plus the oil-burning versions have what's unquestionably the finest small diesel engine ever made. ;D

I hit a fox once in a Mk2 Fiesta diesel at about 90. Made one hell of a mess, plus I had to pull the steaming remains off the towing-eye. Not pleasant!

I spotted this wee beastie while out for a walk the other week I love it Originally built by my mate Jon Clewer (aka Sidewinder on here), subsequently sold to another RR member Rebel2CV and now back up here in the Midlands in the hands of its' builder. Here it is now: Here's my old Dyane. Again. Probably the only car I've ever really regretted selling. It's back on the road now, though in what guise I have no clue. It says something about the cars and the people that own them that even now after almost three years without a Snail, I'm still a member of 2CVGB. I WILL own another at some stage soon.

The dreaded Scra**age Scheme did for SO many Vectra B's....their day will surely come, maybe not quite yet though.
Having said that, that one looks spot-on.
