Van/HGV Driver for the last 24 years, the last 10 of which have been for a firm in Worcester, we make thermoformed panels in aluminium/magnesium/titanium for the automotive/rail/aerospace/defence/medical industries. . 2.5 million miles and counting without an accident or conviction.I'm actually quite proud of that bit. ;D

Great find. Interesting to see the sunbeam lasted a mere 7 years after the programme, despite its low miles, yet the Oxford is still well and truly with us. Almost certainly donated its' bodyshell to a rally team. My mate broke a fair few mint roadgoing Sunbeams a few years back either for the bodyshells or parts. Getting very hard to find now!

Greetings from England Viktor, welcome to Retro-Rides! I do love the look of these, though I've never seen one in the flesh. We got the later 412 over here from 1969 onwards, which proved very popular for cost-conscious buyers, especially after the Arab Oil Crisis of 1973. Looking forward to seeing yours progress!!

Here's why. Not that fast (0-60 in about 7 seconds, 147mph), not that exclusive (over 3700 built).....just achingly gorgeous.

The post WW2 buildings at 'The Austin' are what have survived. CAB 1 & 2 (Car Assembly Building), along with the main offices/design office (known as 'The Kremlin') and the circular display building known as the 'Elephant House'.
These were all built on what was originally the circular cinder test track built to test the Austin Seven which became the airfield that the smaller planes built at Longbridge during WW2 flew from. Bombers like the Stirling and Lancaster were towed wingless across Birmingham to be finished off and flown out from Elmdon (now Birmingham International) Airport.
The original North and West Works (along with the separate factory built in the late 1970's to build the Metro) have been completely flattened now, Bournville College has been built on part of the original Austin factory, and work has just begun on 'Austin Park', the first new area of public parkland in Birmingham since the 1960's, which will occupy the rest of the 'old' works....including uncovering 850 metres of the River Rea which the old factory sat over for over 100 years!

As ever, I store a list of threads in my IE 'Favourites' folder for consideration at the end of the year.
For the first time ever ALL my choices have already been nominated!
And can I just thank those who have nominated both myself and the Beach Party this year. For what's basically a Sunday meet-up in a (unusually-located, I grant you) public car park it has seemingly found a place in people's hearts, for that alone I'm both pleased and proud.
Retro-Rides is a big town full of winners, in my book. ;D

Well it's not off a Mk2 Mini, as it'd have the iconic, much-loved green flashing light on the end of the stalk if it was.
Could be from a Mk3-onwards Mini, should just have the indicators/horn/headlamp flash/main beam if it is. Wipers on a Mini were always controlled off a switch on the dashboard.

We've been absolutely hammered with snow here overnight and it's still snowing, as it is up in the north west. I've just checked with the Met Office and it's now forecast to continue all day and part the way through tonight as well. I don't think it's fair on those people who were planning to travel from far away to the Beach Party to ask them to do so in conditions like this. BP7 IS POSTPONED UNTIL SUNDAY APRIL 7TH.
Thanks. Brian

Slight tweak of rim colour, and a healthy dose of lowering stick...et voila. I'd rock that. ;D

Jesus Christ Steve, That's one SHOCKING photoset. I'm sure everyone on RR will join me in breathing a huge sigh of relief that nobody was hurt, but sending you thoughts and best wishes for what must be a monumental sense of loss you're feeling right now.

We're living in a world where, although you can still buy a perfectly useable one for less than two 'bags of sand', some people are asking £11k for immaculate 80's 2CV's so this is no great shock.
Immaculate examples of most cars will always fetch a hefty premuim for diehard collectors.

That brings back some memories! My mum had a '59 Herald coupe with exactly the same colour scheme (although it had white rubber covers on the bumpers) in about 1974/75. It was the first car I ever actually drove, I was just about big enough at 11 years old to operate the controls!!
I remember the registration number was 129 XMD...though I'm sure it's not around now, my big fat auntie put her foot through the floor climbing into the back seat one day and Daddy Damaged shored it up with a sheet of ally and pop-rivets. Them were the days. ;D

Huge congrats from me. Mick's from my neck of the woods, and was a regular at the old Black Country Street & Strip shows I used to MC at about 8-10 years ago. Proper legendary bloke.
