This has come around SO fast!! I've had the shittiest week imaginable at work, was even in at 5am this morning....have notched up just under 2300 miles this last six days and will be doing the same next week....so the thought of doing another 240 on what's my one full day off didn't exactly fill me with enthusiasm...thankfully mr.weblefeck's offered me the back seat of his super-comfy (and for sale...check the classifieds) Volvo for the journey. Big up yaself kind Sir. So while there will be no Tw*tmobile Xantia in attendance, I will be there. Safe journey to Brean to everyone coming, wherever from. SEE YOU ON THE BEACH.

None of the above (with the possible exception of the Mini) will hold a candle to a modern in terms of MPG. Once you've factored in the depreciation you'll suffer in buying a Clio/Ka though it becomes less of an issue.
Don't discount something modern but sporty....the Ford Puma came in insurance-friendly 1400 form, and will kick the ar*e of all the cars above in EVERY respect, as well as being immense fun to drive.

Check the advance/retard on the diesel pump, on these engines they sometimes stick in the 'advanced' position and if left will FUBAR the engine.

These things can rot for England. That looks like one of a similar age my mate owned, his had plastic covers over the windscreen pillars, underneath the covers was....well, nothing actually.
Engine's the venerable old hemi-head 1971cc Peugeot lump as fitted (in RWD canted-over form) in the 504/505. Bit thirsty but will basically last forever if fed/watered.
A firm I worked for the 1980s had a Ducato van that I used to drive regularly. Happy memories of skinning my knuckles on the dashboard every time I went for 1st 3rd and 5th! Bit torque-steery from memory but handled really well for a van.
Good luck with the running repairs, hope to see it on Brean Sands on Sunday. ;D

If that doesn't work, it COULD be that one or more flexible brake hoses has perished inside and is acting like a one-way non-return valve and not letting the fluid pressure drop to the affected wheel cylinder. I had a Capri with that problem, took an age to diagnose. Lovely car though!!

GREAT advert for the rust-inhibiting properties of old engine oil. That's a magnificent old thing, and much respect to you for keeping it how Terence Beckett intended.

Always thought these had potential, but agree that the door shuts are a bit odd. But other than that, looks bang on to me ^^^^WHS^^^^ That's superb. If you'll excuse the tenuous pun.

Me and leebash should hopefully be able to come as Lee's dad lives within a few miles of the place. Really looking forward to seeing a few I met yesterday and of course meeting some new faces! this is looking alot more solid now, just about to book coach tickets up. Haven't been very active on here sorry, but I love some of the work that goes on so can't wait to come and say hi. Know a few people with some cool cars, so I'll ask them if they fancy popping along too. Coach tickets? Whereabouts are you guys coming down from???

Its own website...its own FB page.....AND full page adverts in Retro Cars for four months before the event. Not to mention everyone on the forum talking about it. OK then, just mark this on your own 2012 Calendar.....

I'm with Mark here. Taking a classy (de-spoilered - definitely a good thing) car and adding stuff it doesn't need doesn't sound like a recipe for success. If you were asking someone to photoshop some Gold-centred 8x16 BBS on and dropping the suspension a bit, I'd be all for it. I agree with Simon. Needs better rims, but I like the look.

That must have been a stirring sight, Tony. Not to mention the sound.... The engines in these were a work of art. English-Electric two-stroke diesels with EIGHTEEN cylinders and three crankshafts chucking out 1650bhp. And each Deltic had two of them. The sound generated was quite unbelieveable.... Wish I'd been there to see that. Cheers for posting, buddy.

Needs to be bought, then combined with one of those UVA/Fibresports 'Shogun' VW van kits that were on sale in the 80s.

Buy one, ditch the stock skinny rims (PCD is the same as Suzuki/Daihatsi offroaders) and fit some decent off-road rubber and you'll have the best mud-plugger in the business. Absolutely hopeless on road though. I had one back in the early 90's. Best thing about it was the guitar I swapped it for which I still own.

Long-time subscriber, almost from Issue 1. EASILY my favourite monthly these days. Quality writing, superb photography and great columnists (Jay Leno, Nick Mason, Tony Dron etc etc).
If you've ANY interest in historic motoring/motorsport it's essential and entertaining reading.

213's a better car than the 216, mainly due to being Honda engined. Watch for rust everywhere.
