Right, here goes...
THE BRIEF
To create in the space of one day a car that encapsulates the spirit of
'retro-rides'. To show that any car can be made to look cool with subtle and
relatively easy modifications, and on a limited budget------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not quite as easy as it sounds. There's a few areas where this could
fall flat on it's
...
1. Funding
I suggest that a paypal fund is established to provide adequate resources
for the project. I am happy to act a s treasurer unless anyone has a better
suggestion, and to kick-start it I will stick a few quid in myself.
Anyone wishing to contribute can stick in what they like.... as the forum
has 1000+ members, even if only 100 stick a couple of quid in should be able
to do it. This makes it easier for us to raffle / auction the car off at the
end for charideee and come out looking like allround good eggs
2. The vehicle
The car itself needs to be a choice that is not appartenly obvious - hence
maintaining the RR ethos that there is potential in EVERYTHING. However, we
need to make sure that the car is not TOO obscure... i.e no other wheels in
the world fit it.
Sticking with something on a 4x100 / 4x108 / 4x114 pcd leaves massive scope
there.
Also as the reduction in ride height will be a key mod, easily chopped
suspension is a must. So that's metro's out then.
Cost is another consideration. It would be great to do some 70's rwd
stonker, but with prices continually on the up an 80's fwd machine is more
probable. Unless someone fancies donating a complete car that is.
The car must be completely roadworthy both before & after the work to allow
us to offer it as a prize.
Other factors to consider are storage & logistical issues / costs. As I said
I'm happy to source the car and hopefully I could store it too without too
much friction... the reason I'm volunteering this service is that living
only a few miles from santa pod, getting the project to CARS will have
negligable cost implications.
3. Concept
Once the car is aquired we need a clear idea of concept to aquire bits & pieces needed and to amass tools.
P-shoppers at the ready!!
Once the concept is decided it needs to be more or less fixed, as paint / wheels / stencils / fablon etc. will have to be purchased.
4. Preparation...
The car needs to be fully prepped prior to the day... eg. cleaned, paintwork keyed back engine steam cleaned etc. so we are not up to our eyeballs in muck before we start.
5. Tools
This will be determined by the spec, but a clear list of who's bringing what will be very important. And folk actually bringing the stuff with them!
6. On the Day!
I suggest we have revolving 'teams' working in 1-2 hour stints, made up of 4-6 perople and each headed by an undemocratically chosen 'expert'... ie. individuals with good history of this kinda thing. Choosing these leaders is important as they also need to be heavily involved with the concept process, collating and approving / rejecting ides from the forum. This will aslo mean that the car is done on time and to spec on the day.
7. Health and Saftey
Ther work area must be secure and not accessable to joe public. All steps must be taken to prevent injury to those doing the work too.... goggs, gloves etc. will be mandatory!!!
8. Charity
If the car is to be given away at the end, which charidee would we be supporting?
Anyway.... those are my thoughts so far, in a slightly abridged version (
).....
whaddya reckon?
