Wow - this could be sooo cool! I really think we have the resorces & the know how amongst the forum members to pull it off. I think Nick's outline brief is spot on - forward planning & a clear idea of what was going to be done during the day will determin the success of of the project. For example I'm not sure we will have the time to spray a whole car & do a decent job within a day, aswell as doing the other bits & bobs - certainly individual panels and/or stenciling could be achieved. I will be more than willing to donate funds & help out on the day - aswell as perhaps certain preparation of stencils & such like before hand. Oh & I think it is important that members are not left working on the car all day when theres a whole show to take in also Nick's 1-2 hour stints sounds fine

I'll definetly donate money. Why don't we just brush paint it with primer? I could do that.

All the ideas sound good to me so far, If we could find out what bits/parts we are willing to donate/blag for cheepness or free then that might point us towards which vehicle we should go for. E.g I can get hold of 5 stud 15" VW steel wheels for nowt so if the car had that stud pattern it's £££s saved What do you reckon?
If we all have a rumage in our sheds or garages for that stuff we have no use for or "might come in handy in one day" we could probably build a fleet of cars!!

I'm confident we will have time to spray it we need a gazebo though - so much sh*t flys around in the air at the pod

I think Roller might be the way forward Fusel Tuning style : fusseltuning.de/dft/It also is a bit less messy for those around,.. so stuff could be worked on whilst it is getting painted.

if we are doing this at our 'spot' in the show then i presume its being done on grass? in which case we need some small sections of hard flooring so we can use jacks and axle stands

Your brief sounds spot on nickb. I'd be willing to chuck a few quid in the kitty, might even offer my skills if you're that desperate Think we should budget for a few things such as lowered springs rather than chopping them on the day. Anyway, i offer up the suggestion of a maestro.

Cancer Research sounds good to me. One MAJOR thing which I can foresee possibly being an issue is health and safety - what if someone wins it then has an off due to cut springs? Our necks would be on the block. *n Surely then some sort of terms and conditions would have to be drawn up, maybe make the winning bidder sign it, basically saying that Hotwire and the team who carries out the modding take no responsibility for any structural or mechanical defectst that the car may or may not have and offer no guarantee or warranty should the car become unroadworthy for any reason. To that end, it may also be a good idea to have evidence of absolutely everything you do to the car with before and after footage or pictures or similar, in order that should someone suffer a mechanical failure on the way home in the car and try for a lawsuit on the grounds that you lot may have damaged the component(s) in question somehow, you can show exactly what you have and haven't done and can conclusively prove that you haven't. The reason I say this is that at St Andrews Ambulance we have to have a meticulous record of everything we do to every casualty while we're on duty, on the grounds that should the casualty develop complications and worsen later on, we can't be accused of negligence or of giving them an incorrect treatment, while the criteria are much different with modding an old car and giving it away to a member of the public, the idea that you have to be able to prove what you have and haven't done in order that you can't be accused of anything remains. In any case, if you record everything that happens you could compile a little video of the event later and stick it on the site for posterity!

Flogging it off on eBay is prolly a better idea.... 'sold as seen' covers your ass then...

You're probably right, still might be a good idea to keep a visual record of everything you do, if only because then you could have someone who's good at such things compile a short film of the project to put on the site!

The Belmont idea or similar seems to work for me. selling the car shouldn't be a prob either, bought as seen. spraying etc needs to be away from show cars tho i recon.
Do yous want me to film it? i may need a security gaurd/assistant while am away if anyone wants to halp. any one bringing a genny too cos i could run a TV monitor off it.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Yea...spraying needs to be a long way away. What if it's windy?
I do not fancy black overspray on anyones car!
Do we have any word from the Pod as to wether we could actually do anything like this? I don't want to wazz on anyone's bonfire but H&S is so tight these days I'm not certain they'd like gennies/powertools/spraypainting occuring on site with lots of sharp things?
I just thought I'd ask before we all got in a spin!

Couldn't you erect some kind of impromptu spray-booth for the occasion? A basic steel frame that could be prepared beforehand so that it can be collapsed for transport and bolted together on site, with polythene sheeting draped over it and secured, although obviously with provision for ventilation into the booth etc. With regard to Health and Safety, the organisers may want to do a risk assessment or similar on your stand for insurance reasons etc, particualrly if they know you're using potentially risky equipment. These days at St Andrews we can't even erect a first aid post or park one of our mobile units on a site without someone risk assessing the site, the equipment etc in case someone gets badly injured and decides to sue us (odd considering that the reason we're there is generally in case people get badly injured but there you go! ;D ), I can only imagine how rigourously they'd want to check the stand if grinders etc are running, so I'd definately ask for permission beforehand, so that they can arrange it with the insurance co. etc, it's a nuisance but it's in your own interest, the opportunity for lawsuit these days is ridiculous.
