Repaired the kick panel, has some strange studs on it that do not seem to be used but caused a panel perforation hence the random repair in the middle. Next is the boot floor and chassis rails alongside the fuel tank which is up to where I am now. I have new floor supports and an alloy floor as a previous owner has been here before. Ths rear cross member has been replaced and seems to be an ok job which is nice as there have been some nasty bodges elsewhere. I have no load leveller currently but hopefully have a lead on a working one.

Brave man, I have a 93 Discovery that I used to chase the rust round with a welder and new panels until I parked it up 11 years ago when I bought a Landcruiser, suffice to say the disco is now looking very sorry for itself. I don't know if the RR is the same but afaIk a lot of the Disco bodies were built in the late seventies before the project was shelved and then stored out in the open for ten years or so before being finally being built up, also the curse word steel back then was already rusting before it was ever pressed.

Spent a year or so doing all the same areas on mine 4 or 5 years ago, at least mostbof the areas which rust are flat and hidden so don't need laborious re-finishing (mines an earlier 86 one so everything except the outer panels is matt black). A lot of people knock them but they are certainly no worse than anyother 30 year old car for rust, the chassis in particular seem to last pretty well (I,ve just done a similar repair to yours but that's all it's ever had).
They are so over engineered even with the rust they are still stronger than most cars of their era.

I am lucky that I can take my time, this will eventually be a daily but there is little pressure on finishing it and I specifically started on the easy bits before moving onto the harder areas - day 1 I would not have had the confidence or capabilities.
I do need to figure out what to paint it with, especially as most panels are zintec.

I've found epoxy primer seems about the best product, sticks well and is waterproof.

Not much progress, kick panel welded on and not shown on the photos removed three brackets from the back which were unused and just acting as a rust trap. Will need to drop the tank for further chassis repairs and think it's about half full, which is a pain as this my only diesel.

The area where the tank mounts to the rear x member was a horrible rust trap on mine the later ones like yours may be different though.
