Thanks for the pointer, the bumper is not properly attached so it would tuck under. I had to make the tabs the plastic clips sit on as the inner wings are meant for the metal grill, i will look into shortening them a bit.
Reminds me i need new bumper bolts, one has rusted to about half its original diameter

The lower grill edge lines up with the wing ends, or thereabouts.
Edit. Forgot to say, top job and great save ! I’d say you’re on the home run now.

Bit closer today having shortened the mounting tabs, got the drivers wing on and waxed all under the front arches. For some reason my horns have not survived the long sleep and both are making dying goose noises. Any recommendarions? Klaxon, air horns?

Good progress. 👍
The horns might spring back to life if you give them a few sharp taps whilst putting 12v across them. They’re likely just stuck through lack of use.

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

Tried coaxing the horns and they did improve a bit, but still pretty rubbish. Given the cost to replace is not that much and there is no way to get in them without destroying them gave up. Had at least two weeks with no rust so went looking at the rear quarters. These had some suspicious looking wavy profiles. Pictures show what lies beneath. This was intended as a quick dirty repair until next year when i can do a better paint job and probably replace with fibreglass quarters. Opportunity to try another colour matched rattle can but this time i will take this bit along to match against.

Some paint and it looks passable, on the bad side of passable but good enough for now.

Moved outside this weekend as i need the garage space for unrelated tasks. I did bleed the brakes but they are still awful so need another go at that, but it appears waterproof, and will continue to add more of the missing bits. I do potentially need to add more drain holes in the sills both to be able to inject wax the complete length and to allow better drainage.

Checked if i had any water ingress following some typhoon like weather, and it seems i have very slight ( few drops) at the bottom corners of the screen.
A bit annoying but do they all do that?

Yes, they love to let water in. It’s a Land Rover. You need to use some sealer against the frame and rubber because water will creep. Also around the glass as it pools at the bottom of the screen by design. Likewise around the frame on the door shuts for the same reason .
Lots of suitable stuff about but not going to recommend one. I’m sure someone else will though.
Edit. Seem to remember GN used to highly recommend ‘arbomast’

I asked the windscreen fitters to come back and have a look and this time they used plenty of sealant both between rubber and frame and glass and rubber.
Following a decent shower yesterday, it now seems to be waterproof.
Need to write a snag list before i forget all the jobs left to do.

Not much done over winter as it is now outside, but pleased to report it is waterproof. Replaced the sill covers, these are normally held on with plastic rivets but i have decided to use stainless rivnuts.

Other sill trim and rear bumper on. Still got a long snag list to go, not least have to adjust all the panels a bit to improve the front end still. Will be trying some buzzweld WAR underbody treatment, but need to prep the chassis a bit more.

On mine it was a case of adjusting the gaps to a roughly even 1/2" or so, I think the soft dash's are better though.

Only really got snags left to address but lost my mojo on it to a degree for the last few weeks. Worked on the interior for a change, glovebox back in after a bit of head scratching as to the right assembly order. There is a fusebox i need to recall where it was hidden, no evidence as to what any of these do and it is factory standard. I will determine what these do before tucking it away. This is a poverty spec diesel so not that much to protect with a fuse. Last photo is of a drop link dust cover, annoyingly this has zero miles on it, limited uv exposure and already cracking. Replaced with new boots as joint is new.

Finally have the boot floor fixed in. Used some non setting black mastic, and rivnuts with stainless bolts. I don't recall ever using the centre seat belt but it is so short it is virtually useless. Not really a wrong way to fit it so not sure what is going on there.

Working through the list of remaining issues and attaching the fuel tank strap was one of them. Only the part of the chassis this was on had disintegrated and I had forgotten to put it back. Nice still day last week so stuck one back on, painted and waxed.

Got a smoke problem which i am waiting for a new fuel filter to be delivered before trying running it from a can of fresh diesel. Not that optimistic this is the issue as fuel sampled from the sedimenter and filter looked ok. In the meantime checked valve clearances. These were slightly wider than spec but not so bad to be contributing to the smoking.

New fuel filter, and ran a gallon of fresh fuel from a can and no discernable difference.
Will remove the injectors and get them tested.
