There used to be custom fit after market oval speakers for the 924/944. Not sure if they're still available though.
What is the last car shown in your museum pictures? The black one in the David Brown Automotive section. It looms like a modified BMW M1.

If they're the same as mk2 golf rears they'll be 2x4s, I managed to find some decent inphase ones for mine

They're 4x6s, not ultra common but still a decent selection out there. Just have to find some that fit due to the mounting depth There used to be custom fit after market oval speakers for the 924/944. Not sure if they're still available though. There's quite a lot of speakers that fit available actually now. I found some that supposedly fit without hassle and ordered them last night. I might have to fabricate a spacer for for the speaker grille, though, but that's not a problem. The last car is indeed a M1! It's been freshly restored. It was lost for a lot of years... it was custom built for race driver Harald Ertl who set a speed record with it in 1981 as the fastes LPG powered car! It received a custom widebody, two turbos and a LPG conversion and set a record of 301 kph. Beautiful car - MUCH better condition than mine! Edit - just re read and realised you've already ordered a pair of speakers - oops! I have a set of Alpine SXE-4625S in my 944 (Square dash, but I think they're the same for speakers). They fit nicely except that you need to space out the grille by a couple of mm for it to clear the tweeter. Don't sound bad either.  I also went from a set of 15" teledials to a set of 16". The reduction in sidewall made the biggest difference of everything I've done to the car handling wise (Bilstien B6's, suspension bushes refresh and late S2 ARB's). Look much better too! |

Ah, that's good to know that the Alpines do fit! I stumbled upon them and was unsure if they would fit because it did look like the tweeter pokes out massively.
I ended up ordering a pair of Retrosound R-463N. A bit more expensive but they're supposed to fit very well, although the stock grille will need a bit of spacing as well. They do come with their own grilles, but I want to keep the stock ones.

That pic does make the TT look large, is it really that small or just the camera angle? Curious what the sort of attitude other drivers have towards the Porsche on home turf, in the UK it can be a bit confrontational.....

The camera angle does exaggerate it a bit. Overall the 944 and the TT are relatively even sized.
944 is 4,20m long, 1,73m wide (without mirrors), 1,27m high.
The TT is about 4,04m long, 1,76m wide, 1,35m high.
Well, so far I haven't encountered any negative attitude toward it on the road, but I've only driven it for a few hundred kms now, so I can't really say yet.

Doesn't look very blue! I guess it's a grey with a TINY hint of blue.  It's them Germans, they love a bit of colour misdirection. My mk5 Golf is "North sea green". It's grey...... |

Quick update! Yesterday the postman brought this lovely package:  A pair of Retrosound R-463N speakers. Nothing special, just some replacement 4x6 coaxials but they allegedly fit without andy modifications. This is what I found when I opened the box:  Two speakers, screw in adapter plates for different mounting points, new grilles, some cables and some screws. The new vs. the old:  The install went without hassle, they fit plug and play. However, as the tweeter sticks out a bit more than on the OEM speakers, the stock grilles don't fit. I was going to fab up a MDF spacer, but I had a mishap while cutting the MDF which made it unuseable. So I decided to use the supplied new grilles. Original grilles:  And with the new grilles:  They are not what came with the car, but they don't stick out like a sore thumb and in fact look the same as the grilles Porsche used in some 911 models (for example 964 rear shelf). So I decided they are fine for the time being! Feels good driving the car and actually being able to listen to music instead of weird crunchy scratchy noises. Eventually I do plan a bit more high end audio setup (while still not being obvious and hidden as much as possible), but for the time being this will be enough. |

Did some stuff today. First, the car was leaking a bit of coolant and I thought I had identified the culprit as one of the coolant hoses. So I ordered a set of hoses the other day and got around to fitting them today. Hoses went on no problem, pretty nice to do actually. But then I noticed that the actual culprit was not a hose but a screw-in connector in the radiator which had broken as it's made of plastic.  New one is ordered and should see the Porsche back on the road in a few days.   Aaaaaaand I got around to sorting the radio situation!! The previous owner had installed a modern-ish space ship radio which looked terrible in the old Porsche. He did give me the stock Blaupunkt Bremen SQR46 which I was originally going to install. But he had modified the wiring in the car to accept the newer ISO plugs. I honestly was not motivated enough to re-wire it back to the old style plug, so I just bought a new old radio I went for a slightly more modern Blaupunkt to keep things in the family (Porsche and Blaupunkt were closely linked in the 80ies). I wanted something that had a tape deck, as I collect tapes and think a car of this era should have a tape deck as it's perfect for the time period! I also wanted one that had the option of installing a CD Changer / AUX in because I knew there are bluetooth adapters you could install instead of a CD changer. And that'S precisely what I did. Ordered this adapter which is essentially a Ampire BTR100 adapter that's been re-wired to be plug and play in the CD changer / AUX plug on these old Blaupunkts. Works like a charm! I can now listen to either radio, tapes or streamed audio from my phone. As soon as I connect my phone and start playing audio the headunit immediately switches to Aux and starts playing the streamed audio. Quality is very good. I'm happy as can be. Now I can listen to my favorite mixtapes and whenever I'm in the mood for something I don't have on tape, I can just use Spotify to stream it!! Period correct and yet modern!  |
