Well I blame Mr cjhillman. I read his threads and found his cars super cool. It then planted the seed in my head to look at Capris. I then saw that for my keys kind of cash I could only get one that is rotten beyond belief. My though then steered towards Opels and I found out that the Commodore and the Rekord exist and found them super cool. Then I saw this Escort for sale and contacted the seller and heard nothing back. 5 days later I got an answer and today I went to check it out. For the price I thought it would be a shed but it turns out to be in super condition! I am well impressed. It's been lowered at the back and the lowering springs for the front are in the boot. As are the original rears. I think I will be putting the original springs back in as my days of creeping over bumps are long over! Pick it up on Saturday and I can't wait!    |

That's looks pretty solid that. With regards to lowering you could try and swap or sell the lowering springs for some standard rs turbo springs, they would close the front arch gap by quite a bit while still letting it drive over speed bumps without ripping the exhaust off.

It's a 1984. It was first registered on 20th June 1984 which I found cool because I bought it yesterday so it was exactly 35 years old.
Its the oldest car I have ever had but weirdly the car that is the best condition.
The idea with the RS turbo springs is a great idea!
Can't wait for Saturday.

I have been awake since 5:45 because today is collection day! I have to go to the registering place to swap registration over from my S-10 to the Escort and then I will go and get it! I can't wait! Expect lots of photos to follow at some point in the next 24 hours!

I bought one just like that for an old girlfriend who had just started to drive. It was about the cheapest thing we could find at that time (mid 90s). Looks like you've bagged a really clean one there. Lets see more pics. Every time I hear of a Ford "Laser", I see Dr Evil doing his air quotes  |

Well today was the day! And what a day. I was at the registration place at 8:30 this morning even though it only opens at 10. There is always so many people there on a Saturday it makes sense to get the early.   At 10 they let us in and the woman on the desk checked all the papers and that were in order and then gave me a number. I sat and waited an hour before my number was called so at this point I had been there for 2.5 hours. That's not fun but things were about to get worse. The guy put all my info into his system and claimed very loudly "you won't be registering anything today" when I asked why he told me I had outstanding fines on my car so would not be able to register anything until they are paid and the people who can take the payment don't work Saturday. Raging I called my girlfriend and then went home. My girlfriend then searched out all the papers that showed I had paid the fine I once had and said "Let's get all this tackle and go back and start again" (disclaimer: they may not have been her exact words but they are a pretty accurate translation from German to northern) I wasn't so enthusiastic to wait another 2.5 hours and get kicked out again but we went. After waiting 2.5 hours we went back in and was sat with a woman one table along from the chap who didn't want to register my car. This time around everything went smoothly and there was no mention of fines or anything! So it was off on the train to get the car. The guy who I bought it off is a thoroughly nice bloke and picked us up from the station. We got to his house and I wasted no time in giving him the remaining cash, getting my plates on and getting on the road.  |

That thing looks amazingly good for a 35 year old car in a country that salts the roads in winter. Quite like it. We didn't get that model here in New Zealand.

It really is proper tidy and I am very excited to have a car that is in such good condition. Going to put the standard rear springs back in on Saturday and give it a general bit of checking on the ramp. |

The plates you were putting on it, is it a "Private" plate or in Germany are you issued a plate that relates to you not just the car its on?

The plates you were putting on it, is it a "Private" plate or in Germany are you issued a plate that relates to you not just the car its on? In Germany the plates are always specific to the owner of a car. When you get a car here it has no plates so you have to go to the registration place to register it and to get your plates. My plate is a private plate here it only costs 10 euro extra so why not! Bad luck with the bloke at the registration office, some people just seem to like ruining someone's day. Anyway at least it worked out in the end. The car looks really clean in the new photos. PS: I just noticed the bonnet vent piece, I don't know about Europe but they were an aftermarket part in this country and are really rare nowadays.

The bonnet vent is an aftermarket part here too. Yesterday after work I decided that I would put the original springs back on the rear of it until I have got some RS springs as the Gasser look just isn't for me! As I was swapping the rear right spring I broke a brake line so had to knock up a new one. That is the bonus in having a nice boss that lets me use the workshop after work. I am really happy with how it looks now and it drives 1000 x better!    |
