Buys car, raises it. You know this is RR, right? 🤔😉
I know it’s a bit late now but brake fluid is awesome at stripping paint off textured black plastic like that spoiler without damaging or discolouring it. Just brush it on and leave it overnight, safe in the knowledge it won’t do any damage, then jet wash off.

But the tat that was on there was just too bumpy for my liking. The trick with the brake fluid is a good one that I used a few times years ago when I had VWs. The daft thing is I thought about that and still didn't do it!

Just a small change. Ok it's a change I have already made once but I thought with the new lip it may be better. Not entirely sure.

Hi Retro Rides. It's been a busy time recently for the Escort. I was supposed to be driving it to England to my parents but there has been a bit of a hard time in my girlfriend's family so we drove down to Bodensee instead. It is 560km each way for us and I have done the journey 3 times so far (I am still here) and the Escort has been great! It did get incredibly dirty though. One thing that I have found is after it is parked a few days I can't start it without flooding it. I don't know if it is a problem with the car or the user. This happened on the way here last week. Merry Christmas to you all and be safe!

Wow zero miles, its a new Escort! Its funny how cars of that era only had 5 digits for the miles and generally they could all go around the clock with ease yet modern cars have 6 digits yet they struggle to get to 100,000 mark let a lone go over!
Merry Christmas! just finished scrunching some wrapping paper around some "quality" gifts so that's me sorted!

Merry Christmas,
Just read this thread from start to finish. Lovely car, I agree now with the front splitter fitted, the grill looks better black, ties it all together nicely.
Some lows, those wheels you've got and a nice backbox / exhaust, and you'll be laughing.

I hadn't considered a new backbox until your comment and now it is fully in the plans!

Sounds like you may have a leak sir I think it's just one of those things that 35 year old Ford Escorts do. What is annoying is that it seems to like flooding itself at the minute.

After a successful trip back from the south of Germany the escort has been enjoying daily life and has had no more problems with starting or anything which is a bit weird! It won't be used now for a week as I am going to Hamburg and traveling by train. I have been thinking about converting the carb to a Weber has anyone got any experience of this?

Good to see your getting some use out of her Rob. Mine also mists up a lot but, i do have a leak in the boot i think from one of the tail lights and some how its getting in and running down behind the drivers seat. keep meaning to investigate this but forgetting.
I hear doing the webber conversion is the way forward. with mine being a 1.1 i think the carb is a bit more difficult to find. on the other hand the Capri has an automatic choke webber and wont start now its cold.

Hi mate, I really like your Escort. It has the right look I think.
I personally would try to stay away from this carby conversion. Your car is now about 36 years old and it is still doing a great job with this 36 year old carby. You done some serious big trips and it never failed you. Keep as is. That flooding issue has settled or fixed itself. So, to easy don't worry about it mate!!
Cheers

I have found a leak in the boot from the top of the boot seal. Will be doing something about it soon. I think I am going to leave the Webber conversion for now because it has been working fine. Unrelated but I am going to a Billy Bragg book reading on a boat in March and proper looking forward to the chance of meeting one of my heroes!

I found a fuel pipe that was a bit leaky so changed that and it has been 100%. I left it standing for a week and it started with little fuss even though it was -2 and the car was frozen over. I don't think that the Webber would be any better than that. I have also been tanking it with 98 octane to experiment if it starts easier from cold in winter and it seems to be the case.

I also bought some expensive polish and as it was so cold went into an underground supermarket car park and gave it a clean!... I think I have hit a new low!

Hey Retro Rides. Not had much to update on my Escort as all I have been doing is driving it. I dropped my RS1600i wheels off at the sandblasters a few weeks ago and got them back last week. I was going to get them powder coated but we got a Polar Silver MK1 Focus in at work that needs a bumper painting so they will get painted with that! Hopefully have them on next week. This morning I ordered some H&R -20mm springs and some Bilstein Dampers that should also arrive next week so hopefully have a great update next week! For now a photo of my blasted wheels Happy Easter everyone and stay safe!

Just my opinion I really like it with the lip, I am really looking forward to having it a touch lower and with the wheels so that I can see if it looks as good as I imagined it to.
