Between Feb 1999 and June 2002 i owned OEX 69W a MK2 Escort 1.3L 2 door in Terracotta. It was a 2 owner car with 56K and was a local (Norwich, Norfolk) car. It was good when i bought her but i made her even better over the time i owned her. I did a search the other night on the DVLA site and she's still alive albeit currently SORNed. Can anyone on here help me locate the current owner as i'd love to see her again. I showed OEX all over the country and won a few trophies too. This is June 2000, Walpole, Suffolk. The engine bay was covered from new in Ziebart rustproof wax and it took me a whole winter to remove it to uncover this mint paintwork. It kept me busy maintaining it. It was supplied from new by Spruce Howlett and i had the rear window sticker remade. The inside was unmolested and i left it the same way.

The way i look at it is this. If having 4 wheel studs on a wheel in an uneven pattern were fine and dandy then BMW would have made them like it from new. The point of posting this up and making people aware is that the 'even pressure' on the face of the hub isn't even and surely over time the unbalance will make itself known by perhaps fracturing the wheel. Also as has been stated, if they are really that ok then has he made his insurance company aware as to his 'modifications' ?? I'd hazard a guess as to the answer being NO !!!

Any 'Standard' model of whatever marque is rare as these were the ones that were peanuts to buy and most likely to be trashed and chucked away. Preserving what is there is what i'd do, I love the boggo versions of whatever model as these are far fewer than the more upmarket versions. Ghias, GLSs Pah, not for me thanks. Also, what was the name of the previous owner as i may be able to trace him. there's a FB page and also we have some records available.

Brilliant project, one to watch. I like the history of the Viva as i'm a staff member at the Cold War museum where the previous owner was based.

Welcome Automatix, you've got a good base car to have plenty of fun with. These do look good low and with steels, the rest is personel preference. If you have ideas then go with them. That's how my MK2 evolved, in fact it keeps evolving. Keep us updated

Areally nice Escort, the steels are a good addition and i like the recaros. Now all it needs are some original plates to replace the horrid 'new font' ones. Old cars and new style plates look wrong !!

Good set of pictures, nice to see this progressing. That's the one thing that's good about Golfs in that you can dismantle the entire slam panel area to make engine removal so much easier. Also smoothing out the engine bay is something i've been toying with, a project for next winter i reckon.

True there is a fair bit to do but don't be put off. Just work on one area at a time, be methodic and it'll come together. Plus when it's done you'll have the satisfaction that you did this car and saved it from the easy way out.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, I knew RR folk would appreciate Jelly. In answer to the various questions. 1, The zimmer was going to go on the roof as part of the 'rack tat' idea. But once finished (though whenever are they) it was too clean for this, so it was used as a bench to saw up the bamboo. 2, Be good to meet up with local petrolheads, so once in April she's on the road we'll have to make arrangements. 3, The only VW speciific show i've done is Bug Jam in 2011. I'm also going this year and may do Whitenoise. 4, The pebbles are actually a vinyl tablecloth which was cut mat-shaped using the ones from my Vectra as patterns.. The ideas I used came to me as I went, some were ditched (sandpit in the back) but I was kinda planned. I have all the build pictures in order on my FB albums, hopefully you can see them via this link. www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.153081584714377.22199.100000376093753&type=1&l=18817bdc0bwww.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.278644825491385.65638.100000376093753&type=1&l=d1b5ac2049

Nice project there. Good to see it's been saved and will see the road again, also it's a Norfolk car originally (CL is Norfolk, probably Dereham)
