Looking through your thread i noticed you have had an alloy spacer / gasket made for your fuel pump. I'm pretty sure the reason it originally has a 'composite' gasket is for heat dispersion, engine heat can't radiate through to the fuel pump causing vapourisation. Alloy though can hold heat and it might cause problems, just a thought.
Nice progress all the same, liking the banded steels (mine though will stay boggo)

Bought a pair of these NOS indicator lenses courtesy of German Ebay, my originals are fine but these will help sharpen the front up more. £45 delivered too.

I've tried a mates Pug 205 and Dolomite, both run with Silicone fluid, and neither suffer from soft pedals. He swears by it and is pleased how it rids the spectre of seals rotting or sticky brakes.

Stunning progress with this, it was a shame to wave bye bye to the original shell but a mint, brand new one doesn't grow on trees so getting one was a no brainer.

I know you've read a millon times whilst doing this 'blog' but i'm in awe. I have restored cars and one was pretty close to the amount done here (1965 Anglia Estate) But it's still good to see others doing this kind of restoration. I have a fasination about ex police cars and this one will be pretty damn special once finished, call me OCD but please try and retaing the old style plates, new font ones on a classic look soooo wrong (as the link proves)

The brake rebuild has continued, but it brought a head scratcher that baffled us but got resolved easily. Here on the paper is the new seal kit, ready to be fitted though another pair of reservoir seals were needed as the ones in the kit were too small. Once fitted we tried to bleed the system but to no avail, it seemed the front section wasn't recharging the fluid as that part of the piston set up wasn't being allowed to go far enough back, The centre spring has a screw adjuster and even tough this was left as it came out it was fully screwed in and then the system bled with no problem. Repainted master cylinder Rebuilt and fitted A full set of copper lines were made and fitted by my mate Matt To 'future proof' it further Silicone DOT 5 Automec brake fluid was installed, this won't draw in moisture, can be spilt on paintwork without damaging it and as it never degrades needs to never be replaced. At £32 a litre it's not cheap but worth the price for not having to replace it again.

That takes me back, i worked in a Peugeot dealership as a paintsprayer in the late 80s and remember these being delivered. the ones i remember though came with the front wings fitted. It would take 6 of us to carry it.

Update time, i scoured the net for a replacement seal kit for the Master Cylinder and finally found a set on German Ebay for £23 delivered I also repainted the calipers, rather than the usual silver i painted them in Ford Nimbus Grey The rear cylinders, front flexi hoses, calipers were fitted. The two brake lines coming out of the flexis were deemed knackered and were replaced, so sod it the entire pipework was renewed too with lovely copper pipes. Now only the rear axles flexi remains and this has been ordered. Then once done this week and the seal kit fitted the system will get refilled with ever lasting Silicone Fluid. No more seized brakes or degraded seals. A mate fabbed up the clip to hold steady the main fuel pipe

Heater lever sorted !!!!! the cable was straightened and repositioned into the lever, then the cables inner was oiled, the levers greased as was the quadrent on the bulkhead. The result? a slick moving heater control. To access the heater control the instrument cluster had to be stripped, on it is '1980 STANDARD' Heater Control all fixed One job finished, another starts this time it's the brakes that are getting attention. Once the engine went back in the brakes felt soft so as the fluid had been in a while a check over was needed. The master cylinder has a slight weep from the seals so a kit is being purchased to rebuild it The front calipers had sticking pistons so i've decided these too will get rebuilt, then it's new pads, flexi hoses and rear cylinders (these too are showing signs of corrosion) Once this little lot is finished i'm going to fully flush the system and replace it with silicone brake fluid. This will last forever and won't attack the seals or paint.

This is giving me a right head-scratch, on the heat controls the hot and cold lever won't hold the cable, there's a hole for the cable end to locate into the left lever but i'm puzzled as to how it holds in there whilst you operate the lever. I can't see any trace of a clip having been there and i've never took it apart, i'm stumped !!! The heater controls as you can see the cable has been bent up by the lever, but why did it come adrift?

Last night my mate Matt came over to help me with the 'to do' list
Auto choke feed wire reconnected (soldered) This has been broke for a while, reconnecting it saw the bi-metallic strip heat up and in turn engage the choke
Brake fluid cap low warning switch wires reconnected (soldered) This was broke before i bought the car, it was 'repaired' but not very well and always looked ugly. Eventually a new cap was sourced.
Timing checked, it was only out by a couple of degrees but was strobed spot on.
Tracking checked, the drivers side was spot on but the passengers was 1.5 degrees toe out. Matts Gunson Trakrite Wheel Alignment Gauge did the job.
Brake pedal feels soft with half travel, possible Brake master cylinder seals? Yes, the master cylinder was pulled away from the servo and exposed a fluid inside, a sign of failed seals.
Re-attach rear bumper rubbing strip, it was re-attached with a hair dryer to soften the rubbing strip.
Heater cable has become seized, possible detachment? further investigation and it looks likely that there is a seizure in where the heater matrix lives. i'll look into it next week.
