Chatted to a mate today who makes ubber detailed aircraft model kits, he made mention of a powder you rub on plastic using a cotton bud that repsresents various metal finishes. it's £8 a pot but is awesome stuff (his words) i'll find out its name.

Ooo, a local car. I'd just clean it , repair the rust damage and then.............that's it. Enjoy it as it was intended, no need to do the usual and slam it with rims.

It's great to hear stories from the chap who drove this when it was in service...!!! This is what makes this forum so darn superb... Cracking stuff...! My feelings as well, reading the posting of the guys that actually drove 822 (what was the service number ID of it when in service) really shows the history of it and how saving it is so important.

Top work all round, especially on finding the interior. The door panels would more than likely be fine once installed. I want to see more progress, crack on !!

Got the paintwork back last week and cracked on this weekend building it up. To say i'm chuffed with the result is a slight understatement. It still needs a few tweaks BUT the bulk is done and it finally looks like a Grifter.

It's a shame when a normally good 'spanner spinner' lets you down with a blindingly obvious breakage. Kind of lets the side down, glad to know though that all's well again.

So glad to see the Rover 800 getting recognised, what a brilliant selection you've had. It's obvious that you love these and your latest is certainly a good car, i too think it deserves to remain stock. Source the correct wheel trims and front bumper and keep it as is. Top work !!

I cheated and got a local bike shop to rebuild the wheels. I didn't feel confident to try and a mate of mine has experience of lacing a wheel and said it's not easy to do.

A stunning MK1, nice to see another Grifter Forum member on here too.
What's the progress of your custom Grifter? I understand the appeal of these as i think once mine is finished another will be sourced to modify.

Being 42 years old i have a particular interest in anything from the 1980s when i was growing up as a youth. One bike i did own at the time was a MK2 Chopper and i loved that bike, it went onto pastures new when i got a racer in 1985 and i missed it ever since. Fast forward last May and the Spring Autojumble at Beaulieu, i went for the full weekend and passed this by a few times. It as you can see is/ was a wreck and was going to be slung in the scrap bin when the owner got home if unsold........well, it couldn't happen so i saved it for the grand sum of £10. Yay !!! Ever since Ebay and other contacts have been scoured to get all the missing parts, and boy there were plenty. Here's my FB album of its resurrection, at the present it's having the frame painted and will be getting the build up in the next few weeks in time for summer. www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.746147525407777.1073741835.100000376093753&type=1&l=2558f18bddOh, sorry for the slight confusion too, i didn't get a Chopper due to the 'scene tax' these demand, nah, i'm not paying stupid prices for those. Grifters are as cool and of the era too.

Bookmarked ..i'm guessing that you're going to put them on the market as soon as you get it so as to be assured that its gone come months end? Hopefully all this effort will show your mate that a cool car is very much a realistic reality.

Re-skinning a door is very 'do-able' on a DIY basis. The amount that you've already done yourself this would be easy in comparison. I done a few in my former life as a body repairer, paintsprayer and whilst it does take time it's fine. Where the skin wraps round the frame grind this away, knock the welds off the top where it fixes to the frame, peel the seam off the door frames back. Then lay the new skin onto the frame, tack the top onto the frame, tap the flange round. Job done !!
