Next up was the exhaust for which I used an Ashley mk2 escort 2.5" outlet manifold, the exit pointed down at the floor so i cut a wedge out and raised the pipe then re weld it, the system is a stainless one meant for a pinto that I chopped and re routed to suit the xe now the manifold is on the opposite side of the car I never liked how the tailpipe sat it hang too low, pointed down and at an angle so chopped it off and repositioned it so it's more aesthetically pleasing to me Everything got built up and things made to suit or modified, this is where I'm to at the moment I've connected to the nodiz unit set the crank trigger pattern, I'm literally just waiting for a VR type crank sensor to come then it's time to fire her up I may have skipped parts but wanted to condense it down

Well I put the old girl on the back burner for a while because life happened but about a month ago I dragged it around and set about the engine conversion, first I had to put longer studs on for spacers so I could fit the sierra fitment 15" 7 spokes as the tyres on my 4 spokes were dead I then started on the engine, a quick run down I used a manta 1.8 sump and pickup, made the mounts with a mix of a 4 cylinder capri engine mount and a 2.8i capri engine mount, the head in the picture The head in the pictures was just one for mock up so I didn't damage the ported head I built up for it, I sent it away for new valve guides as they were removed when it was ported Fitment wise I had to put on a 90° water outlet in the back of the head and cut off the distributor mount so it didn't foul the heater bubble,

Have you got a thread for your capri? I love capri's have done since I was a little lad helping my dad work on them along with cortinas, Granada etc I've had this one for 10 years I fitted my t piece down on the inner wing on the bulge with hole in the middle, it just needed enlarging slightly for the correct size bolt As with the sierra it really annoyed me as the tensioner was no older than 8 months old when I replaced the lifters, but I suppose you can't help these things, I have picked up a reconditioned head today from a fantastic guy on the fsoc Hey fordperv hope you still have the old Capri? Drove past yours on the way to my folks the other day for the first time in a while. Did you finish the Escort? re reading your Capri thread, I noticed the T-piece mentioned regarding the Landrover master cylinder. Mine has been done before I bought it but I don't see a T-piece anywhere, unless the alloy part on the end does the same job? Just thought I'd ask. Hi mate I've not been on here for a while, the escort got sodded off with my ex I doubt that car will ever get finished As with the t piece I can't see the route of your front brake pipes so I couldn't tell you what's been done there If you look at this picture you can see where I've fitted mine

I really hope on his headstone it says life and next to it is a 5 spanner rating
I used to love flicking through the manuals when I was a kid and they have got me out of the curse word over the years with torque figures and ways to make the special tools, he had a great vision, r.i.p

The oil pressure gauge is mechanical and the feed is piped straight from the engine where the oil pressure switch would usually be on the inlet side of the block located in between the engine mount and the dipstick tube, this is on my yb I'm building so on your capri the oil pressure switch and take off for the turbo oil feed won't be there the pipe should be straight into the block The gauge is fed by a black plastic pipe that runs through the bulkhead to the back of the clocks 99% of the time fuel and temp problems are caused by the voltage regulator, you can test if they are actually working by grounding the temp sender wire to the block to see if the gauge moves to the hot area don't do it for too long but it takes a little to move so no more than about 20 seconds will give you your answer, also do this with the fuel sender wire it should show full If your in stoke anytime soon I have a set of 4cylinder clocks you could try

Great stuff this will catch a few people out, I'm waiting for the better weather to get a c20xe in my project, are you going carbs? I did bike carbs on my last one, I’m planning to put throttle bodies on this one. What are you putting an XE in? I'm putting it in a mk3 capri mate, I've got a bike carb setup and nodiz, I'm using a manta sump and pickup with a 7 degree bellhousing, it's a path less travelled in the capri community as people got hung up on the Sierra i4 then zetecs and Nissan turbo on 4 pot conversions

I do love a mk4 escort, they are getting quite popular now as well which is nice The mrs has a S2 rs turbo which I adore I wish my mrs had the same tastes lol. One day I’ll get an RS but funds never seem to be there so I’m always messing with lower spec models. I’m probably too impatient to save up.... The mrs is a pain in the bum because her cars take me away from my own, she has a mk6 cabriolet runaround as well as a 3 door Sierra project

Newer stuff generally doesn't float my boat at all but I have a couple of guilty pleasures The GT86 is one of them What's not to like, a rwd sports coupe that's aimed at the regular person and its pleasing to the eye

It will be a slow depressing job but once you have got the repair all removed you will be just left with the original problem that faced the mot man all those years ago. I would leave the battery where it is. Its not going to be in the way of a zetec in a Mk4 escort so I see no benefits of it being relocated to the boot. I think the idea of the battery going into the boot with no tray was to remove the water trap risking further corrosion between tray and panel where there is minimal paint protection, rather than engine bay clearance, I may be wrong

Holy thread resurrection batman Well the need for another mk6 escort got great, I showed mrs fp a picture of a convertible for sale at a very good price and she wanted it, it makes sense considering I'm restoring her car for her and she keeps stealing the saph The best colour with RS accessories I've already made a couple of changes to it, her biggest gripe is the body roll so it will be lows next Hows everyone else doing on the escort front

I hate the slap dash m.o.t type repairs they only cause future problems
I remember those seperate panels from the hadrian's catalogue (I used to work in a panel shop) it was a sad day when imperial bought them out because from the start they never intended on producing the older stuff any more so when the stock was gone that was it
Why not just unpick the welds on the tray and pop the battery in the boot?
