We recently splashed out on a big modern for Mrs Geordie, as she's doing a few more miles in her new job. It's the most expensive car I've ever been involved in buying, but when she showed me the sale advert pics and said that was what she fancied, I had to say I quite liked it. 2013 Mercedes CLS 250d Shooting Brake. Big, comfortable, quiet and 55mpg (600 miles to a tankful on a run). To be honest, I think it's a beautiful car. The lines are just so sexy. And that comes from someone who really isn't into moderns, as you probably know from my car history. I think it's the best looking current estate bar none... Thoughts on whether you agree about the CLS lines, and, more importantly, what do you consider to be a good looking modern. I don't really think this should include super cars, with all their low swung swooping lines. I'm thinking more of 'normal' moderns. My shout for another damn good looking modern....Alfa Giulia....

In recent years, I was very impressed with the Peugeot 2 door bubble roof coupe, the RCZ IIRC? And the 8c from Alfa. I love also the shape of the newer Audi rs6, but I think it's handsome and aggressive rather than beautiful.

Whether you believe you can, or you cannot, you're probably right.

Really liked it. I may have mentioned this a few times, but I really have a thing for the 1st gen C4 Cactus.

I really really want a Guilia Quadrofoglio, I have no chance of affording it but downloaded the brochure, base price of £63.5k and by the time I'd mentally specced it up it was 72, look on eBay and a 2 year old one can be had for 46, that's ridiculous depreciation That Merc is beautiful in fairness Geordie, not a fan of the loon as I think the back looks a bit rushed but as a wagon it's spot on, enjoy it

I love also the shape of the newer Audi rs6, but I think it's handsome and aggressive rather than beautiful. Every time I see one of those Peugeot coupes I see VW Karmann Ghia, which in my slightly biased opinion is one of the most beautiful cars ever made full stop. Not so sure that the RCZ is beautiful, but the influence is there. Personally there's not much that I can think of that I'd consider a beautiful modern, but estates usually look better than the saloon version - the Mercedes being a prime example.

Newer stuff generally doesn't float my boat at all but I have a couple of guilty pleasures The GT86 is one of them What's not to like, a rwd sports coupe that's aimed at the regular person and its pleasing to the eye

Grand tour doesn’t interest me “Looks nothing like that” Yea ok They said on the Grand Tour that it is just a Navara with a Mercedes badge. This is not completely correct. Mercedes has made many changes in suspension, brakes, noise levels etc. I am not a big fan of this thing, it's stupid expensive and owner reviews are not looking to good.

I am with you Geordie. I love the wagon but like the sedan a little bit more. This modern thing is something I would love to own too But then again I really like the new 5 series, Toyota Land cruiser, most Audi's....

I think it's the best looking current estate bar none... Have you seen the current Volvo V90? Elegant, purposeful, and the interiors are something else. There's an artist's impression of a polestar version that made me do an outloud "oooh" in the office

Best looking estate by a country mile and I hadn't seen a new Volvo that caught my eye in any way for many years.
