I’ve tried using the search function in this thread, but I’ve not had much success with it, so hopefully you won’t mind, but I’m going to get the stuff sorted on the patrol before doing the big amounts of work on the golf... So I’ve got the box section sill to remove and reweld in place on one side, the rear arches to trim and plate, and a few patches on the boot floor. To check I’ve got the right products in my lists before ordering them... Zintec sheet Bilt Hamber etchweld - use this both as a weld through primer and as an etch primer? I already have a u-pol seam sealer Top coat on boot floor/outer arch is a rattle can of the colour I got made up at a local spray store, along with a can of clear Dinitrol 4941 for the inner arches, underside and sills Dinitol ml cavity wax for any cavities No reason to use an epoxy primer on top of the etch I assume, just go straight in with paint? And spray all joins with the weld through primer after cleaning it up before welding, and then spray over the weld afterwards, then seam sealer, then top coat/4941 I think that was my only concerns Thanks

You must sometimes feel like it’s never ending and every time you move to the next panel it all needs done again? Its a monotonous process and you just have to keep yourself both motivated & focused - its absolutely pointless painting over the top of bent / dented / warped panels when you have gone to these extents with getting the cars structure corrected I can imagine! And I have no doubt that when you see the finished article and the reaction from the owner.... But yeah, as i think I’m right in saying, any small blemishes only get highlighted and made to look worse once paint is on top!

The brackets you are using for keeping things rigid while doing the floor, is it just generic brackets? I’ve got sill repairs to do, so was going to brace it with just welding on either angle bar or box section, but thought I’d see how the stuff you’ve used compared?

A lot of work ahead, but it looks like it’s progressing well and you’ve got a plan, really excited to see this progress

Woooooo!!! Congratulations! I had a feeling it would all be good plenty time before the weekender too for your application, is there an estimated time it takes for the DVLA to complete the process? Despite the high cost, at least the washer pump won’t be in your mind and you know it’s as it should be

What a find!! It really does like a great example! Keeping the original paint is the way I’d go too, I can’t get over how good the interior looks!

Certainly been busy with this! Are you going to go for more power while the engine is out? What did you use for the crinkle black finish? It’s a finish I think looks making in a bay - so tidy looking! No, i checked over turbo and its in great condition so i'll save power upgrades for a later date. Its circa 200bhp and that's pretty bang on in a nice light car without having to ass an LSD. Its a spray can VHT crackle black, i've done the intercooler pipes in it too. looks nice and doesn't stand out too much. That makes sense! Ahh perfect, I’ll need to get a few cans! I may give that a try on the pipework too!

Nice work! Your getting the work crossed off the list, have you considered new bumpers yet? Or are you going to stay standard? After seeing the si bumpers above, I’ve got to say I really really like them!

Loving the work you’re doing to this! It always looked an amazing example, but the tidying up you’re doing to it and the little touches are making it an extremely nice and awesome car! There won’t be many left in this condition...
