It normally comes off with tardis or any other tar and glue remover. Rub all the black crud off first then you should be left with just glue residue which will dissolve with tar and glue remover on a rag (petrol and WD40 also work just as well), then a light polish to bring the rest of the panel back to an even shine. Thanks

Invest in a caramel wheel from an auto paint suppliers. Put it in a drill and go at it.
Massive improvement without the plastic

3rd vote for zero-plastic, looks about 10 years older/more-retro. The branch was being kind.

I had a go at removing the glue on side mouldings and got to this stage after using a combination of heat gun, and anything else I could find in the garage. I’ll have another go when I get time, Gilbert’s not got a mot at the moment. Believe it not just not got round to doing it as the horn needed fixing. New horn push job done. Looks far better as well.

I ordered some last night will see if it does the job. In other pointless updates I found some vinyl I prefer the look of so will be fully liveried out soon.

Change of stripe, can’t decide on steels or alloys at moment. I want to distress the vinyl a bit which worked well with a light rub of wire wool.

I like the old hubcap wheels most tbh.
Want to get rid of them?

I like the old hubcap wheels most tbh. Want to get rid of them? Those old trims are great I can by a cheap set of 13’s steels with tyres and play with offsets and tyre size. I have four sets of wheels and tyres attached in various sizes from 145/70 to 175/70. Stick the trims on and no one knows that are mismatch of wheels.

Banded steels with chrome beauty rings and the standard hub caps for the win.
Stripes look immense.

So if you keep the chrome trim it actually doesn´t really matter what´s underneath them?

Think if I was going to go for a polo, it'd be a loom, as much as I love the coupes, these have a big cool factor

Cheers. Still undecided on wheels but swapping tyres at weekend so better come to a decision soon. I’m trying to spend twenty mins each evening after work sorting various little bits on the car as I’m hoping to have it mot-ed in the next couple of weeks. Tonight’s efforts mean my rev-counter lights up, and the stereo won’t drain the battery. Anyone got a dimmer switch?
