Right, I was getting bored of my very reliable but little rusty Toybota Chaser. And the slushbox wasn't what I wanted as well... Then I found this for sale on here: The Chaser was sold and plans where hatched. Take some panels which needed to go to London and the Chaser to the UK, pick up Rover, deliver Chaser and then go back home. Around 1000 miles, 3 stops, 2 ferries, 2 people and 2 cars. What can go wrong? Well, quite a lot.... But start at the beginning. It's friday morning 6am and this is how the dutch motorways looked: Across the border it wasn't much better And then we waited at the docks, ferry was late, and when it arrived it couldn't leave the docks because of the bad weather and wind. And when it did finally leave, the ride was terrible, took an hour longer and got me a little bit seasick. It was 3pm when we finally set foot on UK ground (a whopping 3,5 later then planned). Quick drive to Dartford to deliver the parts to MadSeb, but offcourse friday rushour started early on Friday, so got stuck in that as well. Quick delivering, something to eat and we where on our way again. 230 miles to and a nice and easy motorway ahead. Luckily the weather was better. The Chaser didn't like the idea of being sold and needed some AAtention... After it was fixed, we drove the remaining 200 miles flawlessly and arrived in Grimsby 1am (instead of the planned 4pm...). Decided to pick up the new car first thing next day and got to sleep . Next day arrived: After pumping up the tires, we set off for London to deliver Chaser. Only 2 miles in the trip, the v-belt decided it didn't like being on the engine and departed from it, nearly cooked the mighty V8, luckily the boot had a spare one. Fitted that and the Rover behaved perfectly the rest of the trip home Only the watertemp light wouldn't go out, whatever I tried. Delivered Chaser in London and then drove to Dover and got onto the feryy with 3minutes to spare, phew! Last drive home was easy, empty motorways -> woofling V8 -> Parked the car home at 2am. Delivered it to the garage Sunday, ready for some TLC to get it on Dutch license plates! First conclusion: Ergonomical it's a disaster if you're used to well thought true, but boring Japanese interiors! It all works though (allthough there are some buttons which have a misterious function to me! ) And I LOVE the V8 and it's manual box!

Hey Thomas, so glad you got back ok. I forgot to mention the few spares I'd put in the boot and I'm glad they came in useful. As for the coolant light, there is a small sensor on the header tank and another on the radiator near the filling plug. If either of these aren't making a good contact (common) it will trigger the light to come on. They both just measure coolant level. I'm so sorry that I couldn't be there to meet you both but hopefully you'll see below that my abscence was deffinately worth it!!! Meet William, the newest junior retro rider I'll look forward to reading updates on your progress with it. What's the plans? Thanks again dude. Ross

yeah, i thought it would be the coolant level, but only saw the one on the tank, will look into the one in the rad as well! All the acid from the battery in that area probably didn't help And you got a very good reason not being able to be around! Congratulations again! Did you get my last text about the V5 documents? And for the plans: get it on dutch plates first, then drive it around enjoying it as much as possible, might do some lowering on it, because the rear looks very high, allthough it's very comfy like it is now Rear silencer needs some TLC i saw today Does sound very nice though!

Awesomeness. I love these - and I'm glad it went well. That dash shot is great.
If you want to know what various buttons do, please do shout/post a picture - I might be able to remember something useful from my Dad's (about which there maybe be some news before too long ;D).

What a great car to buy! It's a great feeling getting your first V8 eh? I have always had a bit of a soft spot for these Rovers . Thought about deleting the rear silencer with a pipe in its place? .

Loud single exit exhaust for the TVR effect ftw - Rovers sound horrid with dual straight through exhausts cos of the weird firing order.

I hear nothing happening when i push it, no clicks, nothing. Loud single exit exhaust for the TVR effect ftw - Rovers sound horrid with dual straight through exhausts cos of the weird firing order. Matt thanks for that, didn't knew that, good to keep in mind

It's the window isolator switch. I'm fairly sure that it turns the rear electric windows off so that kids can't get trapped in them.

It's for raising and lowering the ride height. Or is the passenger seat eject/reset button?

I think it took me several weeks to figure out what that same switch on my Volvo was for, and that's at least placed next to the other window switches. It has even more descriptive symbols on it though, an open circle and a closed circle

Welcome to the world of SD1 ownership!
I am on my 4th, a VDP EFi auto which has needed lots of welding and I am hoping to have on the road this spring.
Your car looks basically sound, rot spots include the rear of the sills, both inner and outer, ditto inner and outer wheel arches. If it is all sound get underneath with a tin of underseal.
Check the probes on the expansion tank and rad regarding the warning lamp - mine does exactly the same. The V8 likes an oil change every 3k, preferably with a good 20W/50 oil.
If every piece of electrical equipment works don't celebrate because it won't stay like that for long. It is rare to find a car with everything working.
I hope you enjoy your time with, what is, for me, the most under - rated british car ever.

sill on one side is perfect from the outside, other side is a bit crusty, so expect some rot underneath the bubbles. 4 doors are rusty at the bottom, but for the rest i haven't seen HUGE problem area's yet. Wheelarches are a bit frilly, so need some attention as well. But all in all it looks like it's a very good one, which i'm very happy about Thanks about the oil tip, and all the other tips, learning a lot about these cars every day.
