Thomas good to see it is running - you have managed to do what I have been unable to do! I had to take the dizzy off mine to prime the oil pump, cannot get it to go now. I have bought new cap, arm and plugs so will have another go tomorrow.

For the first time in 6 months i had the car complete in one piece again. Did a little sneaky testdrive around the unit, and all felt very good. I hope to get a test on it this week, so i can finally start using it! ;D I think i do have an issue with the shocks though, as it looks very high at the back, will be fixed when the creditcard stopped crying and the car proved it's reliabillity

So, i went for an APK test today, and it passed! without any advisories as well, yay! The car celebrated that with breaking down in front of my house on the way back. Great.. It does start, but idles very weak for a couple of seconds, and then dies, and i can't keep it running with the throttle as well, so that's going to be some investigation this evening...

Welcome to the world of SD1 ownership.
Still cannot get mine going, it may be possible that a backfire has knocked the valve timing out (possible with a slack chain), I will have to investigate.
However, I only purchased the car with the intention of doing the welding and getting it through an MOT in Nov 2010, it is now July 2012 and the car is not finished due to it being much worse than expected. My enthusiasm is beginning to wane, it may be time to bail out altogether.

Could it be an air leak somewhere?

i did the flapper test (ignition on, open the MAF) and all the relays are working fine, and i'm seeing 11,5 volts at the pump, it's just not turning, so it's jammed.

Well, fingers crossed for my SD1, i set off for the Le Mans Classic in it in about 2 hours. Around 1000 miles in it, should be a fun trip!

My dad suffered from a jammed fuel pump a couple of times with his Vitesse. I seem to remember that he found a quick blat of 24V (from a pair of batteries) got it moving. ;D

that could be an idea to try, if it doesn't work, i'll only end up with a broken Vitesse... oh wait let's find a spare battery then!

Or you can try reversing the polarity for a second

in the end i bought a new fuel pump, arrived last week and today was the first day it was a little bit dry, so i started on the fuel pump swap. Went easier then i expected, yay for external fuel pumps! Within an hour the pump was swapped and the car was running again! ;D

Nice parking spot and occupation, you already scared the neighbours away:)
I recon the car will look much better de-chromed, keeping the Vitesse striping on the sills.

Normally my parents CarinaII and my Corolla are sitting there as well, to keep the neighbourhood retro, neighbours don't like it, but they can moan to somebody else, all cars parked there are legal

Well I've been out into the garage and found it - 12mm - It's a fleetguard Fuel injection pre filter - Alloy one peice with a fine gauze filter so it can be used on a FI system or Carbs (Part number 020107 FF 9079 My tank to pump is 14mm and I couldn't remember so I bought the two biggest sizes I could find I'll take it to the gathering if it's any use - if you need it quicker I can sort something out but courier is likely to be more than the value of it www.glacierdieselpower.com/product.aspx?pf_id=FF5079
