As I've said before that is an epic purchase mr doctor. Looking forward to seeing it soon One thing I have thought of is that the car was designed to be very easy to change between left and right hand drive. Basically just a swap over of the console and a simple change of pedal box and steering. Hope someone has some experience of this as I'm surei read somewhere it's very straight forward and could be a cool swap Chris

BEASTTTTTTTT
I wish more British cars made it to Canada without the insane price tag attached to most of them. Want a mini cooper? $20,000 please.
Please tell me you're driving it around, with this BLASTING out the windows.

Hope someone has some experience of this as I'm surei read somewhere it's very straight forward and could be a cool swap Chris It looks like it's not really hard to swap, but at a short guess I need the LHD steering rack and dash pod (not shure about that, but it doesn't look like I can swap it to the other side easily). LHD SD1s are thin on the ground though, and some of the performance parts I see for sale only fit RHD cars ;D I'm not to sure what to do yet, I haven't got HUGE problems with RHD overhere (because I never go in to parking garages and very rarely go to drive through diner thingies ), so it's not very high on my list. I'd only do it for market value if I want to sell it. But first I need some LHD headlights and try and find where some of the oil leaks come from and then head to the RDW (Dutch DVLA) to import the car. I had a set of 4 tapes 'Greatest Hits of '93' still laying around which i used on the trip back home So this song goes on the next tape!

Oil leaks: There's a crankcase breather filter on one of the rocker covers. If this blocks, the engine will leak oil like crazy - but will often stop once it's been changed. It's probably worth changing that before delving deeper into the engine. Here's the Rimmer Bros page showing it. Part Number ERC3209A: www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID010801

So thanks for that!

My usual visit to the local custom exhaust builder was on order again (been there with all of my cars ) to bodge the rear box so it will pass dutch inspection. In the end i got a complete new rear piece from the first silencer, as the whole rear piece was knackered and this was the easiest and quickest option I have to see what i'll do with the endpiece, because this looks curse word and a 45 degree angled pipe isn't great either, but i don't want a straight piece of pipe there... Will change that after the car is on the road

three words:
side exit exhaust.
gets rid of that horrible SD1 exhaust pipe up look and like you said, then there's no need for a pipe straight out of the rear muffler.

Had a good day in the barn today. Fixed the front foglights, fixed horn (sounded like a mini one ) and swapped in the LHD headlights. And had a quick look at the Vitesse front spoiler i bought for it, but somewhere in the past it's been ripped off by something and the holes where it mounts aren't there anymore, so will have to look into that later. Almost ready to go for a dutch registration!

I'd missed this thread before now - Great purchase and something different for you - no problems with registration in Holland being wrong hand drive?

As long as the beam pattern is right, no problems with registration at all. That's why i bought and fitted some LHD headlights from a scrapper RHD is a bit of a problem whilst driving (overtaking in narrow lanes, toll booths and parking garages especially) but i'm used to that. The difference in price is enough for me to forget the downsides very quick In some way or another, English cars are VERY expensive overhere..

Went to the 'RDW' (dutch DVLA) yesterday to get the car registered on dutch plates. There are 2 options to choose, 1 is just a paper check to see all is legal and the second option is a full check (which includes a year worth of MoT then), but seeing that the exhaust is still leaking and the rear tires are old, worn and almost flat I chose the first option. Within 2 hours I was back home (and that's a record never been in and out so quick, most of the times it takes about 4-5 hours before you're out of the different offices). Today I logged on the RDW site and to my surprise it's allready in the system! So now I need to wait for the paperwork to arrive and then I can go and try to get some MoT on it, after I fixed the little problems One of that is the starter, which packed up today... ;D

Great to see another SD1 being saved. I have the '85 Vitesse in Silver Leaf (the car I was taught to drive in...) that MonzaPhil's old GSE is seen hiding behind. The broomhandle holding the bonnet up is a genuine period BL option.

Had a good day at the barn today! Changed the tires, fitted licenseplates, fixed battery and gungummed the exhaust, so it's ready for APK as far as i can see. After that i can move it more easily (and legally!) and it'll go in for a new exhaust, because this one has had it Some crappy pics: The bussiness end, i expect the engine needs some loving in the future, it's starting to leak/use more on more water and there's some mayo on the oilfiller cap (but i only used it for short trips so far and it behaved perfect on the 400mile trip home). Also the oil is curse word out everywhere, breather is the first suspect as i've been told Interiour looks very good
