still for sale had it out yesterday and tbh was running loads better i might found some one who can look it on tuesday aswell so might be fixed with any luck but at the mo its still for sale what was the outcome of this comment?? did someone look at it and not be able to help? bit more info on the idle issue please, as in coming off a junction at speed, slow down to a stop and it cuts out or just runs lumpy as if its gonna cut out? i'm interested but i'm also thinking surely there is someone on R n S who can come and sort this out for you instead of taking such a financial hit on it? as you say even if its "darn sarf" you say it runs fine at speed so the distance shouldn't be an problem I'm not trying to offend here as I think the for sale thread has took an awkward turn already with the price arguments.

hi all, looking for some advice. I appreciate its only one pic but from this do the welders here think this is "easily" saveable?? I'm guessing it'll need cutting back a bit but my thinking was as it needs faffing about could some kind of visor be fab'd up as well, basically an extension of the roof/gutter to incorporate a visor? pic for reference many thanks

lpg gas conversion and a v8, u get the noise, 70p a litre fuel. no diesel will ever sound as good as a petrol v8 good call although I had a chrysler voyager a few years back and it became such a pita searching for the lpg stations, I eventually sold it on. I agree it would never sound the same but that vid up there did surprise me at how sweet a diesel could sound (but as i say is it as much about the new turbo'd engine as the exhaust too ??)

this is a long winded investigation for now, but as I'm trying to secure another old yank pickup I want to add a dirty diesel, mostly to curb the suffocating fuel costs.
quick search on youtube with diesel exhaust sounds I found this
I guess my first question is are these kind of systems available to meer mortals cost wise? and to achieve a sound other than a noisy old diesel would I need a more modern turbo'd engine as well??
I know chucking in a V8 would solve the above issues but it wouldn't help my weekly wallet so........
help/suggestions would be great
thanks

jake you are half way there by having a pbucket account !!
simply go into one of the pics and on the right hand side where you can see "links to share this photo" under it you will see img.......etc etc etc
click that once and itll turn yellow (i think) then come back into RR and have your thread open and ready to edit
right click the copied img from pbucket and paste it into the RR open thread, then when finished youll see the pics showing on the edited thread
lovely merc btw

Sorry for the stupid questions. Just wondered if it was indeed worth doing the service (As it will no doubt fail, due to have been sitting for over a year......) you'd be surprised. i won an old mk2 mondeo on ebay once for £37. it'd been stood for 10 months, got in it drove it home and it passed a test the next day haha for the £40 odd quid I'd chuck it in for a test and see what you're dealing with after than, you can end up spending that on service bits to then only find its rotten as a pear in areas you cant see underneath at a pre mot. any local garage will do it, just pick the closest to you given its not been used in a while

Hmm not too sure. They are very approachable and seem to get " classic motors" so are easy to deal with. Best checking with them really

ring RH Insurance, as long as you have a "normal" car in the household they'll insure you.
my F plate F250 cost me £110 per year fully comp inc european and UK breakdown, I changed the policy to the trekker (for free) on renewal it had gone down to £88 per year, obv theres no accrual of ncb but at less than a ton a year who cares!!!
DO NOT drive it on the road uninsured, if for no other reason than the law of sod WILL make sure you hit someone elses car or worse, a person, and theres a whole different world of pain besides a leaky flange !!!
get it insured, tax don't worry for the short trip unless you're plauged by ANPR cameras around there, trip to MOT is covered in acceptable road traffic allowances

As zeb says..forget coolies and all that shizzle for now. Get it roadworthy and motd. A mk2 golf is a lovely car without all the mods anyways
De clutter the list up there and you'll see how small the true list actually is. I'd do the bare essential to get it to start stop and drive. Let the tester tell you the brakes don't work well enough etc etc, then you know what you're really tackling
I'd be amazed from a wanted help thread if you didn't get any takers willing to help, some will even do it for the pleasure (plus tea n biscuits!!!!)
The vw world is massive, register on the mk2 gold forums and especially Vzi if you haven't already
Once you get into it they are pretty simple machines. And as already been said the info at our fingertips is just incredible nowadays. Answers within minutes!!!
Keep doing what you're doing and post pics to your problems. I'm much better at seeing a photo solution/explanation rather than written form as well
Once its roadworthy then you can "scene" it haha

general, I've only skim read your posts and the replies but I can say I feel your pain, there are some amazing mechanics/engineers on here and sometimes talking the talk is natural to them and leaves the lesser (read that as mechanically challenged) of us feeling a little lacking.
its not meant like that though and from reading the thread there's been loads of already detailed help given on fixes or suggestions how to fix the Golf.
do as Elwoody says and put your location up, or even a "wanted help!!!" thread up asking for one of the many capable on here to call round and help you fix something/anything/all of it.
I'm useless at mechanics, and I too see the Haynes as something written in a different language, but persevered at times and have had some good successes, i'm mostly a VW fan and have owned roughly 150 vw's
but could I do an engine swap on my own, hell no.....a quick chat on here found someone not two miles away from me, i'd never heard of him before posting it on RR and he was not only able to do a swap but would have been a damn sight cheaper than a garage too
or else failing all that ^^^ would your "mate with a garage" entertain a lesser fee if you became the lacky for the job helping him out whilst learning on the go??
good luck and as others have said thats a decent mk2 that doesnt deserve the towel being chucked at it just yet!!!
