It was time for some economy. My second car is a jag 3.2s which the GF uses for work, she is finding the mpg resricts her a bit,so its going. Also I need an estate/ rough daily as the 944 is getting knocked about too much. As I only like german, it was going to be an A4 or 80, the prices of high mileage A4 tdi dictated I was getting an 80. I do like them a lot, ive had an s2 and coupe quattro plus with my love of 90s german style modding "A 80s" are cool as F. EG- Surfing ebay I find a likely candidate, poor condition, poor pics poor ad - nobody else was going to see it and it was the cheapest one I had seen, the price was silly cheap. The ebay pics- "audi diesel estate black" (it was actualy an audi 80 avant tdi IN BLUE) Absolutly minging inside and out, I felt sorry for my GF driving it home, though the seller kindly removed most of the litter from the car filling a large bin bag. then off we went. We pulled into tesco to check the lights and levels before the hour journey home, no brake lights...turned out to be a fuse. The sellers were not car people it was clear, but this was realy neglected, and they kept teling me what a nice car it was!? Ive spent a few hours a night bringing it back to what it should be, il list the faults and how they were resolved for 80 owners, no reverse lights car locks when boot is opened no rear wiper no elec mirrors all the above is the same fault, the wires by the boot hinge broken and shorting on each other, the rear wiper shares the e/mirror fuse which was blown due to the same wires. Front doors dropped - new pins. Dash bulbs blown Steering wheel on the p1ss Driver seat wont latch easily - missing bush on front slide. Bonnet wont shut fully- misalighned catch noisy rear wheel bearing. Car wont pull and uses a lot of fuel- Split boost hose turbo to cooler, I made one up. So its now in mechanicly good and pulls well. But it isnt tidy. img191.imageshack.us/img191/977/audiblue003.jpg [/img]

First off was the inside. Stripped out, white spirit, satin black, new mats and autosol on the chrome then re fitted properly with all the screws! Dam tidy in there- The damage on the front was next on the list. 2 new indicators (only 1 broken but I wanted them to match), the white paint came off with some compound and the bonnet tapped out ok, there is still a ding but I have a plan for that later.. Before- After- img560.imageshack.us/img560/3785/audiblue008.jpg [/img] Then I machined the whole car and dyed the plastcs with engine oil. Most of the scratches went and it became a lovely colour. After that I did the things that were annoying me Removed the towbar, cut down the silly banana exhausts and removed the badges. Before- After- img192.imageshack.us/img192/6013/audiblue006.jpg [/img]

It has some good points, the colour, elec sunroof, power steering, chrome roof rails erm, well thats it. OBVIOUSLY the plan is to slam it with some dished rims, I have springs from a 2wd coupe which I think are 60mm but I'm happy to give them a trim to get it sitting right and then I should be getting ( when jag is sold) some bbs rep wheels in 9x16. These- (unless i find a set with gold centres) I will be buying coilys but they cost a lot for B4 cars, so I'm waiting until ive done the rest such as timing belts. Anyway, I can look at these pics while I wait for things to happen. img690.imageshack.us/img690/7272/ollie3.jpg [/img]

Average is 55mpg I'm told, its good anyway.
The s2 type bumpers are long gone, I think a lot have gone to poland where all the audi 80s are. Ive given up on finding one, I was toying with fitting a b3 90 coupe front, bonnet lights bumper and grille. The bumper you want and the projector headlights fetch more than I paid for this car.

Ha, thanks but it wont be like the porsche, i don't want it minty, i need somthing where i don't care if i hit deer and its ok if tw@ts open their door on it. - tidy enough to look cool, rough enough not to care about.
B3 front is likely tbh, there seem to be lots of parts floating about, as everyone wants S2 reps.

Nice turnaround on this one, its starting to look rather spiffing. I do fancy one of these as a daily along with about 50 other cars at the moment

I've fancied one of these for a while after my mate had a 80 16v Sport.
I want to put the whole early front end on with seperate Grill and bonnet and Black plastic bumpers

I went to buy the wheels today, I wanted to collect in person as I don't trust, ebay, people, banks, paypal or pictures. When I got there, I saw wheels I didnt like the picture of that I had seen, but in the flesh it looked a lot like a speedline audi quattro wheel, and on thinking that bbs reps are done to death, I bought them. Like I say, similar to the Audi rims, but 9J! I hope with a huge drop and strech it will be a win.

Great vision. Looking at the first pics I never would have thought it would end up quite tidy. There's a lot to be said for machine polishing, I need to get one and try it on the Saab. Not brave enough to machine polish the Viva though

I have a strong feeling (judging on your other build's) that this one's going to turn out awesome.
I had an 80 avant a year or so ago and must say it was an extrememly well built and economical bus - i managed over 800 miles to a tank once.
Lowered mine on a £170 supersport 60mm kit and it rode beautifully. I wanted to go lower but after the 60mm kit there's no option but coilover and they are really expensive!!!
